![]() I'm looking at getting some new tips for my Weller WMRP for micro soldering. I currently only own a 0.8mm conical tip, which leaves a lot to be desired when soldering pins etc. I'm probably going to get a bent chisel 0.8mm (RT5), for better access in crowded areas, but what else do people have as their favorites?

![]() No one? Could also be for other soldering systems, its just the shape of the tip that would be interesting to know.

![]() In general, conical shaped tips are terrible. They are too thin to have decent heat transfer, they can't keep hot once touching the work unless you set the iron's temperature way high and even then it's a disaster.
If you're soldering larger through-hole headers and such, use the biggest tip possible. WMRP is a micro-iron, I would not expect it to do everything. we talked about tips a lot here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=67800 |

![]() i love conical tips, if you cant get the heat then your not using a cartridge system
![]() for the speacial hard to reach places i use a curved conical, and for big cleanups with desoldering braid i use a knife-tip |
