    Dell Precision 3510 GPU Issue

    Hi guys,

Im troubleshooting this nice laptop i7-6820HQ with Dual GPU.
    Intel HD Graphics 530\ AMD FirePro W5130M 2GB GDDR5

Laptop is working normally up until the AMD driver gets installed.
Then windows 10 is failing to boot.

I tried BIOS update from DELL website, and fresh windows installation. Manual driver installation from AMD website\ Dell website.

Googling around it seems like a common issue with the driver or the GPU itself.
is there any way to disable this GPU?
Has anyone encountered this and managed to find a solution?

Its a nice laptop to scrap...

    Hi,
You have a defective GPU. The only solution to it is to replace it with a re-balling machine.
I had a different laptop with the same issue.
One workaround is to remove the mosfets and coils going to the GPU. This way, the GPU is not detected anymore.

Re: Dell Precision 3510 GPU Issue

Hi it is possible that the problem is within the gpu
But the thing is the Dell diagnostics shows everything is good.
So it could be a driver problem.
As for the motherboard modifications to disable the amd gpu.
I need very specific components that supposed to be modified.
I don't want to remove parts and end up with an unusable board.

Hi any advices on how to disable the AMD GPU?
i can try to reflow the chip and see if it helps even for a short time to understand if its a driver issue or a chip issue.

        please give me your inputs.

This isn't a stone-old nvidia GPU with "bump-gate" issue. Heating or "reflowing" the BGA won't do anything except more damage.

Also, regarding the previous Suggestion to remove the coils/mosfets: Usually that's not enough to disable the GPU and make UMA conversion. It depends on the board Design, but often you have to do dozens of charged to the circuit.

Your best chance is to deactivate the GPU in device manager before driver getting installed.

So my only option is motherboard replacement?*♂️
I wonder how no one ever thought about a solution for this model so far…

You mean by manufacturer? Well, this would play against the planned obsolescence...

I hold alot of respect for the experts here, but yeah a solution should have been given by Dell.
Maybe they listed something in the schematics on how to disable the AMD GPU
