Why not replace C102? I've seen you do that before, along with a cap on the other side of the board. Too fiddly?

Just to do the experiment to see how long it will last since the original cap did last either, I gave it to the person I know to keep using it and see how long it will last, I did that to one of my TV also about 6 months ago and it still working.

          Re: Samsung LN46A500T1FXZA fixed

Thanks for posting about this issue. My Samsung LN46A630 would often screech and have a display full of green vertical lines when you tried to power it on after sitting. I had previously replaced some caps in the power supply a year prior and those were still fine. Since tantalum caps like C102 tend to fail shorted I unsoldered the original part and soldered a replacement to the original pads. TV is working great now!

When I tested the original capacitor on my Sencore LC103 it shows the value was less than half of what it should be and also failed the ESR test.

Attached a picture of my repair.

Forgot to mention that I angled the part on the board to clear another surface mount component and lay flat.

              Re: Samsung LN46A500T1FXZA fixed

I too replaced C102 with a SMD 100uF 10V CAP and all is working will on my Samsung LN40A630M1F. I was kinda forced into this repair because I purchased a replacement main board only to find out that it was incompatible. Turns out multiple board have the same model# printed on them, i.e. BN41-00975C. But there are other model#'s printed on the board too. Mine had the following:
              - BN41-00975C - printed on main board
              - BN40-00125A - on coaxle male connector
              - BN97-02474A - on sticker on board
              The replacement had these:
              - BN41-00975C - printed on main board
              - BN96-08992B - printed on sticker on coaxle connector
              - BN40-00125A - on coaxle connector
              - BN96-08992B R-11A sticker on the bottom
              - BN94-01723B - Sticker on the bottom
The only visible difference was mine has a 3 pin connector for a fan. The replacement didn't. When I plugged in the replacement, nothing at all happened. I only got the red light but I could not turn on the set. Replaced the CAP at C102 on the original board and it was working fine. So, thanx for positing this fix. I posted the information above for other who would like to replace the board as a warning. Make sure you visually check the board and do some more research on compatibility. I still can't figure out if it's just incompatible or if the board is just DOA. But there was no fan connector.

I used SHOPJIMMY.COM to veriy those numbers on the stickers.
Usually the BN41-XXXX, BN97-XXXX, and BN94-xxxxx go together.
BN41- is the blank PCB and it is printed (White silkscreen) right on the board, then you will have PCBA (PCB Assembly) for the stuffed board.

The sticker on the Tuner if the Tuner module.

I did my 630 just like the guy on post #5, and it worked! So happy! I just replaced the pad and put a 35v capacitor on its place. Now lets see if I can get another 8 years out of it!

Thank you to Bud M and others! Replaced the tantalum pad capacitor (unsoldered it from the board) with a 10v 100 uf electrolytic capacitor and the cold start up rebooting issues including noise, and green lines disappeared. No longer have to be looking for a new TV. Thanks again!

Another thank you to budm! Recently trash picked a Samsung LN37A550P3FXZA with all the symptoms mentioned in this post. Removed old C102 and replaced with a 100uf@35V I found in my stash. TV is now working fine!

Made an account just to say thanks for this thread! Just fixed my LN40A550P3FXZA with this method. I used a 25v 100uf cap. Not pretty but it's working so far.

thanks to all who persevered on this solution. sammy pn58a550c saved from the dumpster. picked from CL and replaced C102 with 47 UF 16 V tantalum cap on main bd, re-soldered relay contacts on PWB and works perfectly.

Budm, I just repaired a LN50A450 and I had an old mainboard that I used but my board and the one I pulled don't have a C102. The part numbers are BN94-02067A and BN94-02068A. Is there a different spot with that cap problem?

                                    Hi,
I have a Samsung LE40A676 with exactly the same phenomena.
Blinking red LED and several minutes to start.
I have checked the PSU board and there's no visible bad caps. I have also measured all caps on the PSU board an they all seem to be Ok, just to be shure.
Does any one know if there's a "bad C102" on this main board to replace?

Thank you budm! I just tried this repair on a LN52A660P3FXZA and it worked well. I put a 100uF 35V (it was what I had already) capacitor in parallel with C102 by soldering to each end of C102 and it returned to normal startup. Previous symptom was it would take several cycles before it would fully start. I replaced some of the power supply caps many years ago which fixed the problem of not starting at all. I've had this tv since 2008. I plan to use this TV to replace a smaller one in front of my treadmill. If the fix fails in the future I'll circle back to let you know.

                                        hi i have LN46A500T1FXZA

and there are overpriced repair kits for not powering on...and or powering on with no image...bl on...and intermittent loud screech sound coming out of speakers

the parts are ic101 and c102 on main board

can someone tell me the ic101 part descriptions so i can order myself...and does c102 replace have to be 100uf?..if not what range of values could be used? i see someone usef 47uf and it worked.
