    Toshiba Canvio 1TB Simple 3.0 - what a P.O.S.

    I bought a Toshiba Canvio 1TB Simple 3.0 as a 3rd external disk for backing-up - others are an Imation M100 and a Samsung S2

I've always built my computers with two disks - first one for software, second for data

My backup strategy is copy all files from the data disk to a directory on an external disk, rotating the externals

I get four backups per each 1TB external disk, then reformat the external and start over

Recently I needed to do first reformat of the Toshiba

It was excruciatingly slow on my Intel DP965LT based system, so I swapped to a USB3 port on a SuperMicro C7Q67 setup, in case that was the root cause

It's just about complete - 48 hours later

Until now the Toshiba's been satisfactory, but 48-hour reformat time is unacceptable

I could try the quick format option, but don't have problems with complete format of the other two

I'm going to try getting a refund on the Toshiba

48 Hour format time? That's crazy. Something's got to be wrong there... Can you check SMART? Wouldn't surprise me if it was full of remapped sectors...

the USB board is full of crappy caps dumping noise onto, well, everything. (see link above) so it could well be an issue, but i put my money on a shiteton of interface errors.
