    Asus mobo won't post

I was at a lan party all weekend, and one of the guys there computer wouldn't do anything. He had something happen to his case, so he had to swap his motherboard and everything to another case. Unfortunatly, he didn't have time to test it. When he got there, it wouldn't post. We couldn't figure it out. We tried removing the video card, putting it in the second pci-e 16x slot, tried a different video card, tried reapplying theremal paste, tried different ram. Nothing. It would power on, led on mobo would light, fan on cpu would spin up high, then lose rpm's, then gain them for a second, then lose them. No beep codes, no post. I suggested it might be a bad cpu, but no one had a extra socket 939 laying around.

    It was a Asus A8N sli-deluxe.

some kind of damage to the old case?
    like dropped,stomped,run over?
did it post prior to the swap?

Well, his case had a big gash on it because he was eating in front of it and he was cutting up some food, and someone scared him and he swung around his arm and gashed the side of his computer, it was just cosmetic, scrapped the paint but nothing else. It ran just fine before that.
