    Sharp Lc-50UB30U may be locked out of Service Mode and Factory Mode

    So i got this tv from my neighbor, when it wasn't working right for him,, he purchased another tv and gave his old to me.
    the color is all outa wack, like the settings have been corupted,
    I've already done a firmware search using the wifi connection update from the tv and it didn't find any new update so it's got the most recent version.

    so
    The issue is i can't get into service mode or factory mode, tried resetiing it from user mode and it didn't change anything.
    when i bring up the menu and type the pass codes to access either mode the menu disappears and each button i press changes a setting like button 2 might turn the SRS on/Off, button 4 might turn volume from 25 to 100, button 7 might turn the speakers on/off and a few other things i can't recall off the top of my head

    in the service manual it has the following:
    Chapter 11 How to Enter Factory/Service Mode
    Enter Factory Menu
    1. Let the TV under a input source
    A. TV, AV IN, Component or HDMI
    B. Not in the Setup Wizard or MMP
    C. Please ADD, DO NOT Select EXIT while in Factory Mode, MUST select
    “CLEAR STORAGE” to Exit
    D. Please ADD correct method to EXIT out of SERVICE MENU?
    2. Press <MENU> key to show the Main Menu
    3. Press the Factory Menu 4 digits password <2, 4, 8, 9> to show Factory Menu
    Enter Service Menu
    1. Let the TV under a input source
    A. TV, AV IN, Component or HDMI
    B. Not in the Setup Wizard or MMP
    2. Press <MENU> key to show the Main Menu
    3. Press the Factory Menu 4 digits password <4, 3, 9, 8> to show Factory Menu

    right off the bat there is no ADD button on the remote or the tv, so i have no idea what button there referring to..

    anyone know what might be going on with this set. and would reflashing the firmware resolve it..
    which i cannot find anywhere for downloading by the way

    The people in this forum will ask for pictures of the main board and perhaps one a close up of the eprom before any suggestions can be made.

      lets check the tcon first, find the little round copper looking test points, labeled vga1 thru vga14, start with one, you are looking for a linear readings so like 1,2,3,4, example:
      1 = 16.86 volts
      2 = 15.93
      3 = 13.78
      4 = 12.89
      5 = 11.89
      6 = 11.51
      7 = 11.27
      8 = 10.91
      9 = 10.37
      10 = 9.47
      11 = 7.81
      12 = 7.09
      13 = 6.47
      14 = 6
      15 = 5.72
      16 = 5.35
      17 = 4.34
      18 = 3.39-3.43
      19 = 1.2-3.2
      20 = 0.2-3

        Re: Sharp Lc-50UB30U may be locked out of Service Mode and Factory Mode

        Hi, I've already tested the t-con and panel with my panel tester,
        the MB does not have any defects the problem is in the firmware, the tv either got shut off while it was updating or had some other hiccup during the install,,
        a firmware refresh might resolve this.

        so here's the button numbers and what setting each one changes.
        Button 0 = nothing
        Button 1 = model info, brings up a list on the far right side of the screen
        Button 2 = Spk on/off
        Button 3 = vol 25 /50
        Button 4 = Low/Middle/High , seems like a backlight brightness adjust?
        Button 5 = ant/cable select
        Button 6 = clears all user settings and reboots the tv to the easy setup
        Button 7 = Brings up a green box in the middle of the screen
        Button 8 = SRS on/off
        Button 9 = Vol 25/100

        current Firmware version is 1.18.0
        is it possible it's not locked out of service Mode or Factory Mode but rather stuck in one of the 2 modes?

          Re: Sharp Lc-50UB30U may be locked out of Service Mode and Factory Mode

          update:
          bringing up the firmware version screen, and then pressing menu and typing 2489 finally brought up the Factory menu.

          so as near as i can tell this is what the text in the manual should say:
          1. choose an input source(TV, AV IN, Component or HDMI)
          B. Not in the Setup Wizard or MMP
          C. DO NOT Select EXIT while in Factory Mode,
          YOU MUST select “CLEAR STORAGE” to Exit

          2. Press <MENU> key to show the Main Menu
          3. Press the Factory Menu 4 digits password <2, 4, 8, 9> to show Factory Menu

          Now in my case the buttons were not working correctly. while in any of the input sources
          so i brought up the firmware version screen in place of an input source and then hit menu followed by 2489 and then cleared storage..
          The remote is now working correctly without any changes in that Mode.
          it also cleared up the color defect, which i still don't understand how, but I'm not complaining lol

          Maybe this will help someone else who may have this issue
