    Soldering job beyond repair?

Been trying to repair my monitor's circuit board. There are many ceramic capacitors the side of a needle head. Unfortunately, I don't have a steady hand, and after many trials, the solder from both sides of the capacitor are gone, and I can't get any new ones to stick. I'm not an expert, so I don't know exactly how an electrical connection is established. Is it where the soldering is supposed to be? If so, I might have burned through the board. I see the yellow/orange color and no sign of circuitry where the solder used to be. Actually, I'm trying to solder back a resistor that I removed to test something, so I'm not sure if I can somehow solder it back on when there isn't any of the old solder on both sides for it to stick to. Here's a picture of what I need to do.

You may have lifted the pads. Can you post a photo of your board showing the problem area?

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      solder don't stick, new tip.
      by datboi
solder isn't sticking at all to my iron.

i always tin it when turning it off, not sure maybe i didn't do it properly one time and it oxidized.

i tried dipping it in rosin and applying tin to try to re-tin in like in some youtube videos, but it don't work

i also tried very lightly brushing it with a brass sponge to remove the oxidation layer but nothing seems to help.

why am i having so many issues with this? how do i remove the oxide layer and re-tin it?

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
      by ezenia
      Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

Friend messed up my laptop motherboard while working on my bench
      by Geeker007
      Hi All,

So my friend was visiting and he wanted to use my solder bench to solder on some WLED circuit board. My laptop was open on the side for RAM upgrade. I know my mistake.

So while soldering he had too much solder on the soldering iron tip and he just shook off the soldering iron on the table itself to remove extra solder on the soldering tip and it landed on the motherboard of laptop. He then out of fear tried to remove it using solder wick and did more damage by removing some components as well. So here I am with weird situation.

      I have not tried putting...
