Share and question about TV repair books

    Hello all

As you start to know, i like to share my discovers with other peoples, as always everyone tries to help me. Then as i always follow the ebooks from Jestine Yong, Damon Morrow and Kent Liew which i find excellent learning and practical base for tv repairs.
Yesterday i found this excellent ebook about T-con repair which Kent Liew is enabling to read online
    http://www.lcdrepairguide.com/screen...ction-tcon.pdf
That is a kind of repair cases for many type of t-cons with specific symptoms and cures.

Then i found by this way the new e-book of Kent Liew about T-con and displays repairs, i am interested to buy it but i would like to know if any one reads it already, if it is really interesting as it said or not ? Because not really cheap.
There is the link to the page and http://www.lcdrepairguide.com/tcon-panel
and the picture of the cover .

    Thanks for your advices again

Re: Share and question about TV repair books

    Hello all

I could not wait , i bought it, and i am glad about what i could find inside, i was starting reading it since last night, but it answers already about many of my questions about troubleshooting T-con and display panel , a lot of fixes too. Inside is a lot of the most used t-con's schematics, a lot of repair cases too with good pictures as illustration. And the full description of the process and functions on t-cons and panels.

Anyway that is not at all the right e-book to learn about motherboard repair, but it can induce to know if the issue is coming from the panel , t-con or motherboard.
It is for advanced and experienced technicians.
To tell frankly, i am a professional technician for 24y now, so many years i repair TVs and for now i still never know how to cure images problems on LCD and Led TVs, except some as solarized or black screen due to dc/dc converter... (CRT was more easy to fix ...)
I can't bear anymore to throw away a lot of TVs just by missing knowledges

I recommend this e-book, that is not cheap, but i think the guy invested a lot of his time on it and did a good job, and i thanks Kent Liew very much for his excellent publications if he occasionally reads this forum :-)

Well, i am not yet arrived to that chapter because my free time is quite short lately since i am self employed worker, i am actually reading the page 70th, but there is the description of that method :
I hope the author will not get angry, but that is just a short preview, after that are 3 pages about the ways to cure ...

What is LCD Panel Cut Off Modification?
This repairing method is for diagnosis LCD Panel when occur short circuit or
leakage inside the Panel. Even this method is not 100% accurate, but it has
higher rate as over 80% accuracy. From the theory of how is LCD Panel work,
‘most' of the LCD/LED Panel has both sides of Gate Driver, especially for HD
LCD Panel or above level Panel. That's why, when the LCD Panel one of their
Gate Driver side failure or short circuit, we can diagnosis and cut off their
shorted line/s to save an expensive LCD Panel.
            A) When to use this “LCD Panel Cut Off Modification Method”?
            1) When LCD Panel symptom is Double Images or Jittering/Jumping
            display.
            2) When the LCD Panel problem has unstable Horizontal Lines/Bars.
            3) When suspect one of the Gate Driver side has short circuit in
signal lines or voltage supply lines.
            4) The LCD Panel has fully of horizontal thin lines on the screen.
            5) The strange display problem occurs in LCD Panel. When facing
this type of display problem, we can try to use this method to isolate the
problem is occurs in Gate Driver side or not. Or which Gate Driver side is
            causing the problem occurs.
            6) To isolate the display problem in LCD Panel or T-con board itself.

Yes, i am living in south part of Belgium where we are speaking french, but i can speak dutch too ;-) Thank you for that link, i did not know about that book, but it looks more general, perhaps for beginners , surely adapted for "Repair cafe events" around here it is a kind of monthly local meeting of hobbyist who wants to help peoples to fix their things for free using their knowledge and some "very" basic tools . (when they fail i need to fix their mistakes :-) )

Long time ago when first LCD was starting to massively replacing CRT tv i bought this other book in french as well from Gerard Laurent edited by Dunod, it is a very complete (as always with Dunod edition) explanation about LCD and Plasma TVs technics, not at all a repair guide, but interesting base to understand circuits. https://www.unitheque.com/televiseur...od/Livre/35251

            Good night all.

              Hi,
The book "Réparez vous même vos appareils électroniques", as you say is more général than TV only, it covers all kind of appliances where électronics is invomved, the largest chapters are covering LCD/LED TV's and Plasma TV where the internal functionning is explained to help diagnose and repair correctly the sets. Non TV repairing readers are complaining about the quantity of information givent to TV's which they do not care for. As explained, a TV has inside circuits that can be found in a lot of other apppliances such as HiFi, projectors, radios and even cooking stuff. It has been written by a Repair cafe member to help service technician to understand, diagnose and repair from the most simple to the most sophisticated apparatus. After a first edition in 2014, a second edition has been issued in 2018. Hope you can have a look to it, it's also available as an e-book. Regards. Jean

That is just a kind of introduction, but not the most interesting part, everything is such style of experience in big details on that book, as i could read he made a concentration of a few previous e-book he wrote before focusing only on t-cons and panels, but i would like to find a specific e-book clearly speaking about mainboards as well, i don't know if he wrote one or anybody else.

I like such peoples who want to teach repairs and are having no regrets to share their experience, i am not doing only electronic, but most of small domestic appliances, and hi-fi, video, computer, phones , tablets, ... it is good to have variety in the work to don't feel bored and to still enjoy doing it as a hobbyist would do. many peoples said it is too much, but in a small business in country side, that is a must to accept almost anything to have a minimum incomes. when you say it has too many books about tv repairs "Non TV repairing readers are complaining about the quantity of information givent to TV's which they do not care for" i don't agree much, yes a lot but rarely the really useful information on it , repair cases are good but not general enough, ... but it is clearly missing Youtube channels and book about small kitchen and cleaning appliances repair.
