    Samsung UN46D6003SF Won't Turn On

Previous owner said it was difficult to turn on. Originally suspected backlights but they come on with the main board disconnected. Suspected EEPROM next and freezing it gets the TV to turn on. However backlight is dim in TV mode but fine in smart hub and media player (backlight set to same level). Didn't check HDMI inputs yet.

Would like to fix this TV but can't find any reasonably priced main boards and unsure with the backlight issue. Was going to plug it in to check for a firmware update but this model doesn't even have an ethernet port. Internet is only available through a wifi dongle. So much for smart features since YouTube is only supported on Samsung F model years and newer.

Different sources may have different backlight settings.

I read somewhere that Smart hub and smart media modes in Samsung TVs may set backlight to max settings regardless of user settings. If people primarily use smart features on these TVs (which set backlight to max) then that explains why so many Samsung TVs have backlight failures (driving backlights to max in smart hub mode)

Are you sure backlight isn't set way down in TV mode? You may have to adjust user backlight settings in TV mode (or for each different source).

Maybe you just need a new eeprom.

Did you inspect connectors on both ends of the cable that goes between main board and power supply board?
        Did you try factory reset?

Connectors look ok on both ends. The factory reset seems to have fixed the dim issue.

Maybe I can sell the tv with the back cover off and a can of dust-off.

Will have to periodically search ebay for a reasonably priced main board and maybe get a dongle for it (RT3572 chipset).

I just looked at one of these sets for a relative.
It was stuck in the "on" position - no functions on the remote or front panel buttons would work. There would be an indication from the led on the front panel that it was receiving a signal from the remote or a button press but nothing happened. The folks had to unplug it to turn off - couldn't change source, volume, any other functions.
I check all the cables and even unplugged the cable to the ir sensor board and it stayed "on".
I froze the eeprom also no change. After I put it back together and my cousin picked it up, he called to say that the set is working! This was a day later.
I'm thinking it has to be the eeprom - anyone have these?
Main boards are very hard to find and expensive.

Here's one preprogrammed flash listing for a UN55D6003SF. Technically, this board uses nand flash and not eeprom. Good chance that it would work for UN46D but still fairly expensive.

I saw that ad and contacted the seller. He stated he did NOT have the flash for main board for the UN46D.
Thanks for responding. Seems like someone could make some money selling these.

Found this seller selling preprogrammed flashes for $100 CAD with shipping! I thought $30 USD was steep.

Cheaper to buy your own programmer for $50 USD.

                  Flash is K9GAG08U0E I believe.

I bought a wifi adapter hoping a firmware update would skip over any bad blocks. Though the smart hub and apps updated, the firmware didnt. Will probably buy a programmer and then resell it when I'm done or maybe sell preprogammed flashes though there seems to be a lot of knockoff and counterfeit samsung flash ICs due to the big range in prices.

Replacing the 48 pin Nand chip alone will not fix the issue. The BGA nand will also need to be replaced. You must replace both together. replacing the nand chip alone does not work and will not allow the set to fully function.

Finally got this tv repaired. I suspected a main board from model UN46D6000 may work since that model is more common. First one I bought, the connector to the front panel was different so I had to return it. Second one I made sure the connector was the same and that one is working. The 6000 main board has 4 HDMI (2 on the 6003) and also adds a VGA and ethernet port both not on the 6003. Wifi still needs a dongle. I think the 40" version of the main board may also work.

                          Hi guys

I have a UN46D6000, when switched on the backlights come on and stays on, although no picture or sound. Voltages on CNM803A reads as per printed list on board. However, there is no 12V on the T-CON fuse.

I do find 12.2V on (looks like pin 51) on the mainboard on the LVDS connector going to the T-CON, but can't find that voltage on the T-CON connector. How often do these cables fail, or I am looking at this wrong. I suspect if I don't have 12V on the T-CON, I have a Mainboard or LVDS cable problem.

                          Thank you guys,

IC210 on the main board looks to be the switched MOSFET for providing the switched 12V to the TCON board, so if you check the resistance between pin 7/8 of IC210 and the SMD fuse of the T-CON, it shows open circuit instead of < 1 Ohm resistance?

Resistance readings between both the fuse and 7/8 of IC210 are 0.2 ohm. Thanks budm

                                  Hi budm

I found another LVDS cable, although it is the same number on the cable, this one is slightly shorter. Probably out of another Samsung. When I connect this cable to the mainboard, the voltage on the end of the LVDS cable is 12.07V, but as soon as I connect it to the T-CON, the voltage drops to 0.87V. That is then also the voltage on the T-CON fuse. If I disconnect the two flat ribbon cables going to the panel, the reading still stays 0.87V. Do you think I have a bad T-CON?

Try powering one side of the tv at a time with one ribbon disconnected from tcon to panel. If one side displays a picture, you have a bad panel.

Seems like a tcon issue, check the V12IN test pad, will probably be the same .87v, how are you testing the tcon fuse? proper way is black - probe on chassis ground and red + probe on each side of fuse.

                                        Hi guys

I removed one of the tabs going to the panel, getting no display or picture. Same with other one. The voltages I took on T-Con was ground on Chassis and Red on both ends of the fuse.

I think I'll order a new T-CON from SJ and see what happens. Thank you so much for your help so far. Will keep you posted.
