Re: Convert AV Receiver to Pre-amp

    Thank you, petehall347

It appears to work. I have an amplifier powered by a separate supply with a line in from the 12 pin connector on the DAC/digital board of the Denon AVR-E300 amplifier. The line out from the small chip amp is connected to a passive bookshelf speaker. Everything seems to sound ok, the Denon AVR does not shut down with an error, and I can control the playback volume through the AVR controls.

I can also disconnect the ribbon header from the amplifier board without causing a receiver error/shut down.

It looks like I can start building my pre-outs now. Although, now I'm tempted to remove the Denon power source and amplifier board to replace them with switching power matched to the new needs, which is a lot less now that the amp will never be used.

I wish they built pre-out only AVR 5.1/7.1 receivers that didn't cost an arm and a leg. From now on all my amplification will be at the speakers so I'll never need a receiver with amplification.
