![]() Grr... stupid DPAKs.
Guess what I'm trying to do with them. Tried a 100W gun... no dice in getting it to budge 45W pencil with a big flat tip... no dice I'm not sure if I want to salvage this transistor or not at this point as I'm not sure if it's the culprit or not... hot air would do any better? |

![]() Get yourself a better iron like the Axium T3A, if that won't remove it you're doing something wrong.
Are you adding leaded solder? Why not try it with the hot air? |

![]() before i had hot air,
desolder and slightly lift each leg put a bit of solder on the end of the iron and hold it on the tab. eventually the component will slide down and you can extract it |

![]() Blah, and of course the source pin has a huge pad with PTVs and a through hole capacitor right next to it... Incidentally that capacitor is a solid polymer electrolytic.

![]() hmm... Tried to use my hot air gun on another (scrap) board with a dpak, came right off with no fuss.
I don't think I'll see the same on the motherboard I want to take the mosfet off of (without damaging either -- worried about frying the other components that are right next to it!). BTW I wonder if I could sub a TO220 in for a dpak and not solder to the board... if the larger package is sufficient for not having board heat spreading... |

![]() You can desolder dpak with soldering iron, just slightly lift up legs and put some baking paper behind.
