    Isolation

I am trying to find out about galvanic isolation?
Does this block a DC loop, or an AC loop?
Anyone with a good defenition of this principal?

The general application is for keeping the AC ground away from a DC distribution by way of salt water bonding.

    Re: Isolation

Thanks Will, i'd seen a couple of those but you found the answer for me.
Interesting that power conditioners have galvanic isolation but the cheaper filters don't.

    I had expected a reply from Galvanized...pun.

      Re: Isolation

I did look because the topic did interest me. Diesel engine repair in small fire boats and changing perishable magnesium plates doesn't count for much here :P I have done a little reading here but just about caps & anodizing.

http://electrochem.cwru.edu/ed/dict.htm about half way down the page you may find something of interest. The main page I found linked by someone here.

If I am galvanized, it was done by hot dip

        Re: Isolation

I may need a Galvanometer to check if there's any Frugacity goin down.

          Re: Isolation

imho galvanic corrosion is not the only issue, very important to have a marine isolation transformer to prevent damage to boat electrics when plugged into shore power. there are enough threads on forums about problems like that.
