Fake Nichicon capacitors with almost-perfect sleeve?

Fake Nichicon capacitors with an almost-perfect sleeve?

Same font, perfect logo, same size of the sleeve. The air vent looks okay. The diameter of the capacitors is correct per datasheet.

It truly looks like the real thing.
I doubt that you would distinguish it from a genuine one.. if it wasn't for the bung.

Shall we be afraid, at this point, that even the bung can be replicated?

I don't know if it is available on eBay but this part is pretty much everywhere.

This is supposed to be a Nichicon “VY” series.

Hard to judge authenticity with only a picture, try a ESR meter.

My wisdom is fake caps usually have poorly feeling, thin legs. Some premium real caps feature copper coated legs or even copper core leg, multi coating

Fake capacitors will measure perfectly when unused but then decade rather quickly.

About genuine (and very good) capacitors having a copper core to their leg, this is true. Panasonic FR capacitors have a copper core: if you sand or twist the legs there is a copperish strate.

Also, fake caps seldom has cost adding features such as auto inserter bents, ammo drums, really special form factors or recently marketed series etc.

              Elna capacitors - fake?
              by Olkus
              Hi,

I have capacitors like this one in the photo. There are differences between other Elna series, I attach foto of Elna RE3. On this green capacitors series is not specified! Fake?...

              Hello,
Just opened a fake Nichicon cap. Checked the technical data, and nothing matches. The capacitance and ESR are okay though. Interestingly, the legs are made of brass ...

After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
              by dragon3x
Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
              power on.

              Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
              switching supply area).
              (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
              than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
              I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
              3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
              by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

Exactly same capacitors from NCC and Nichicon
              by xnRS
I was searching some caps and found NCC KY and Nichicon UHE. I was looking for 1000uf 10v 8 x 20 mm. If you'll look into data, you'll see that impedance at 20 and 10 degress celsious is same, same applies for the ripple current. Also, I saw same thing with some other big caps(680uf 400v, or something like that, don't remember exactly) and saw same thing from NCC and Nichicon, no other manufacturer. This leads me to one idea - they are using same factory and just rebranding some caps.

Any opinions on this one ?
