Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello folks my name is Luke, attempting some repairs on bad caps on a few of my older monitors etc. Looking for some pics etc so I went ahead and registered. Used the site off and on over the years via google searches for the same but just never needed the photos.

History wise worked as a computer tech and network admin for years before I left the industry and went to stitching leather for a living the last eleven So now I just dabble with tech and fix my own equipment in the house and shop.

    Take care!

    Luke

            Well, here we go!

            Hello!

I'm a Norwegian with a background in System Administration (both Linux and Windows), and programming.
Started out with a Amstrad CPC464, before moving on to a C64 (more games available).

Been tinkering with the software side of computers ever since, until university, where I also was introduced to electronics.
Recently I've been approached multiple times by friends and family with requests to fix iPads, iPhones and most recently a MacBook Pro.
Most of my repairs until now have been simple ones, like replacing a cracked display or changing batteries.

My recent MacBook Pro repair have proven a bit more interesting though, as there are patches of corrosion in some places.
I needed a schematic and boardview of an A1502 820-3476-A which led me to a post in here.
So I'm most definitely sticking around here for future repairs (got another 2 MacBook Pro's incoming).

So thanks for letting me in, and look forward to more interaction with this forum in the future!

            Cheers!

Hi folks, finally decided to register and not lurk. Dabbled in electronics for years (well since I was about 12!) and end up repairing everything from TVs, computers, mobile phones, cookers, etc. Anything with a circuit board! Amazing what people throw away just because a cap went bad or a PSU failed.

Hi, the names Davy, I'm pretty new to TV repairing and electronics. Originally from Scotland and now an official beach bum in the Philippines. I retired early and have a back ground in electrical and mechanical engineering, the last five years before hanging up the tools professionaly I specialised in replacing lost keys, eeproming immobilisers and ECU's etc. I now repair anything I can get my hands on for free to help out friends and the locals.

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
                                          I am a 30+ years electronics junkie.
Some experience as a bench tech for 15 years then self employed/contract repair for 20 years. Oh yea and i build flight simulators for 2 years.
Somewhat retired but still active in electronic tinkering.
