Found an interesting little gizmo, an RCA RT2770 receiver...supposedly "1000 watts". Yeah right....it weighs less than 10 pounds and says 90 watts power consumption. The SMPS is probably 150W or so.
It turns on but there is no audio what so ever. No obvious damage was seen, PSU voltages seem reasonable.
The whole show seems to be run by a Zoran Vaddis 886 DSP system on a chip while the output stages are three ST Micro STA517B quad half bridge power stages. They seem to be set up as two full bridges each, one for every two channels.
The ST ICs are just the power stages for a class D amplifier. The DSP is the driver stage.
Without a data sheet on that Zoran DSP or a service manual, I'm afraid I'm SOL in regards to restoring this to it's original purpose...but that's OK, I kind of had other plans for it anyway because I knew it was class D.
The power supply clearly isn't up to pushing much juice but the amp board looks to be quite well made, a nice multilayer FR4 board with a nicely made heatsink. If given a beefy PSU, I bet I can get near ST's quoted numbers.
The fun will be cooking up a driver for them....
