    64MB GeForce 3 Ti500 @ $19

Just a quick Q. Did I get my money's worth with this used card? I've read reviews about it, but there all 5 years old or even older!!!!

Just wondering if anybody has one of this babies. Also according to my browsing in google back in the day this card was the top dog until the GF4 Ti4XXX Series came along.

Anyways I'm just gonna play Counter Strike 1.5 and Counter Strike: Source on it. :-)

    Thanks for any comments.

For $20.00, what do you have to lose?!? I'd say it was a good buy for general use, just don't over-expect from it.

@Topcat: Oh I see. Well I'm not actually expecting it to play Far Cry or Doom 3 with all the eye candy turned on. :-)

I just bought a Winfast Geforce 3 Ti500 64MB recently, around US$8 in my side. I use it for motherbaords testing only, nice tooling!

MSI GForce4 MX440 64 MB DVI, for $10 new, several years ago from CompGeeks.
Picked up 2 for my Athlon Xp boxes. Nice performance. But then again I don't game.

Those are good cards, but I still love how the lower end new ones are cheap, such as this-

            http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814141030

Looks like the better 6200 cards are even more

I'm looking to upgrade the 6200 in my HTPC to a 7 series, I'll have to look at the charts and see how the low end 7 series compare. The nice thing about the 6200 is that it doesn't need a huge heatsink for fanless operation.

I paid $479 for my first Geforce 3 card, and I still have it. It was a Gainward with all the bells and whistles, video capture, tv out, DVI, etc.

I have 3 ASUS cards I got for free! Actually I paid $10 for the skid they came on. Great cards. MX and Ti chips are not even comparable. Ti chips are much better.

If you want extra performance from your 6200, it is quite possible that you have a 6200 based off the 6600 chipset. With these cards it is possible to unlock extra texture pipelines which in turn significantly improve performance. Otherwise I would recommend either NVIDIA's 8000 series cards (lower end of course) or ATI's 2000 series (again lower end). As you probably know these cards are fairly new, however they have built in HD decoders. I think the ATI ones are better but I am not too sure. Anyway, you can get a nice fanless card, have a HDMI port if you shop around and hardware HD decoding just by buying an appropriate card.

                  Re: 64MB GeForce 3 Ti500 @ $19

A couple years ago I got a Geforce3 off ebay to hook up on a P3 machine. I noticed that it's undervalued - they were selling for roughly the same price as the GeForce4 MX's. A lot of people apparently are misled by the name, and don't realize the GF4MX is really just a GeForce2 variant.

The card I ended up getting turned out to be pretty interesting. From looking at articles online I can tell it looks like a VisionTek brand card, but the weird thing is the date codes are too old. It seems it must be a preproduction card. The date codes on the RAM chips are dated from late 2000, yet the Geforce3 didn't come out until about 6 months later. I remember late 2000 because I got my Geforce2 MX then, and I know the latest and greatest thing at the time was the Geforce2 series (Ultra being the top of the line). Also, the card doesn't have any ram heatsinks, which I always figured were for decoration anyway. Maybe they got removed - but I'm guessing this thing is preproduction so it never had them.
When it posts, it displays a message indicating that the BIOS is an engineering sample and not for release. Sometime I'll be curious to look at the GPU and see what version that is. According to stuff I read online, nVidia updated the GPU sometime in 2001 before it got released.
The card works great, it'll probably stay in use for a long time yet. Unless the fan becomes a problem. Sadly it doesn't have DVI.

                    Bad News. :-(

I returned the ti500 back to the surplus shop I bought it from. It seems the card does'nt like my EPOX 8RDA+ setup. When I first plugged it in, Windows' Hardware Detection keeps on re-detecting it. It came to a point that there were 10 instances of the Geforce 3 Ti500 in under device manager and all of a sudden Windows crashes. :-(

Also even under Linux (DSL 2.4), when i use the "lspci" command 8 or more NV20s (GF3 Ti500) VGA controllers are identified, and on top of that the card really heats up especially the backside.

                    The surplus store had only 3 other 64mb cards left, an 64MB ASUS GF2 MX-400, a 64MB Radeon 9000 Pro, and an 64MB (64-bit) Gigabyte FX5200.

I choose the 9000 Pro and I was shocked to learn though that even though this card does not outperform an Ti500, it can go head to head with the fastest video card (256MB GF FX5500) I won to date. Under 3dmark2001se FX5500 is only 7700+ points while the Radeon 9000 PRO is 7900+ points. WOW!!!

BTW, if anybody is interested I've been able to play CS: Source at 640x480 @ Dxlevel 81 (DirectX 8.1) with the "recommended settings." It was playable, lag was only noticeable in the de_aztec map (probably the water effects). Plus the built-in video stress test of CS:S reported a 60 fps average for the Radeon 9000 Pro.

@Big Pope: As a matter of fact the 8rda+ rev. 2.1 i'm using had been recapped. I think only four caps were only replaced. The ones directly behind the Parallel Port.

Also updated the board to the latest bios available on the EPOX Web site. The previous bios was pretty old, i.e. It could not identify my Sempron 2500+ as well as my DDR400 RAM (in the old bios my RAM was only a DDR333, could'nt manually make it go ddr400).

Sadly not of the moment. :-( My rig and the digicam I have is in the house. Maybe tonight when I get off from work (about 5 hours from now).

Yes they are... I'm quite fond of my Ti4200, even went to the trouble of sourcing a multi-platform fansink from Vantec so I could keep using it after the original unit croaked!

That's because my rev 2.1 is all TEAPO!!! Except of course for the 4 one that were replaced.
