I cannot get any indication of power in any way.

The last time the tv worked, it would have been in standby mode, however, as it is now, there is no sign at all of life. It doesn't seem to respond to the power being turned on, a press of the power button on the back, or any presses of the remote control. It responds in no way whatsover....no flicker, no clicks.

did you try a differrent power cable?
i know it sounds stupid, but you always assume nothing works till proven otherwise

No I didn't, as the power cable is directly attached to the power supply board.

Well see if you have the proper voltage where it attaches, if you can't get a measurement from the top, unplug everything from the powerboard, flip it over make sure you have the top part insulated from any metal, I just rest it on a piece of cardboard, plug the power cord in and check at solder joints.

1) What DCV do you have on the main filter cap (yellow) C6524, measure right at the two legs of the cap?
Be real careful since you are making measurement in the HOT DEADLY side of the circuit.
2) You can also test the 3.3V standby Voltage by checking at the Cathodes of D6201 and chassis GND.
3) Connector CN6401: You can test Voltages of the EVEN number pins on the top side of the board. the ODD number pin can be probed from the wire entrance side of the connector using skinny probe.

Thanks for the advice of where to check for power etc, but as I am not savvy enough to use the multimeter without killing myself, I am to scared to play with power on my own without supervision.

I'll have to try to find someone local somehow to try your suggestions.

Is it normally just either one of these two boards that end up being faulty, or do similar malfunction show up in other different parts of this telly too, to stop it from operating?

I'd just once again like to thank all of you that are trying to assist me...

You can test those voltages as indicated in #2 and #3 of budm's post without fear of killing yourself. Black probe on chassis (metal back or screw holding board down) red probe on each pin one at a time. Write them down.

I am going to try get a friend to help in the measurements, as I am too worried.

It may be a day or two to do so, as such, please standby for an additional post in due course.

If there is any other testings he should do, please let me know before I try get the help.

To be clear MUST BE VERY CAREFUL if testing the main filter cap they have high voltage and can KILL easily, NEVER touch them with your hands, even when tv has been off a while they can still have a deadly charge, they can carefully be discharged with a resistor, definitely get help, better safe than sorry.

At least plug t he TV into the GFCI outlet, these outlets are used in the bath room and kitchen.

If the power board checks out as ok, then where is the next checks to be conducted please? My helper is hoping to come on Sunday to help me out.

Maybe check the diodes on powerboard see if any read bad, if so you can look closer at that part of the circuit to see if any other components might be giving the different reading while in circuit.

Right now we need to find out if all the control Voltages and Voltages (switched Voltages and standby Voltage) are present or not then we will go from there.
May be you and your helper should also read the Basic LCD TV troubleshooting just to understand basic concept as to what TV needs to operate.

sorry to say you have a faulty main board
Have done heaps of these and its always the main board , power supply's rarely fail

My helper (Mick) came today to help out

On the power board, there is no 3.3v on standby. This was measured with power supplied pressing the power on button on the back, as well as trying to turn it on via the remote.

Will it give 3.3v simply connected to the power outlet, but not responding to the on off button or remote.?

The rest of the 12 v pins on the main connector all were perfect.

The big yellow cap had power, as did the 2 X caps at the bottom right of the board.

So, still wondering why it will not show the 3.3 standby?
