The problem of op is panel related, a new tcon can not cure his problem, if you have the same issue, do as he did, watch the videos linked, 3 videos linked, watch them all, couldn't hurt, sometimes you have to play with what line/s are blocked with the tape.

I used a paper strip just wide enough to cover the first 8 contacts on the right hand side of the cable that had the problem. Tv is still good now.

Do you cover the first 8 contacts on the right hand side of the left ribbon ?

You unclip the cables one at at time and then turn on the tv to find out which side has the problem. Then you cover the first 8 contacts on the right hand side of the cable that had the problem.
