DG424/DG524 NM-B301 Rev 1.0 no display and power issue

Hi good day this unit has a display at first and after flashing the bios chip got broken the original one is W25q64fwsiq and changed with W25q64fwsiG
no idea if they are compatible after flashing unit wont power if pressed lightly, but if you tried long press it will power but no display , So I tried all bios in the forum same issue.

I take the board out , its taking 80miliamp and cpu is gettign hot but power led is not turning on

    Unit is

Re: DG424/DG524 NM-B301 Rev 1.0 no display and power issue

All of a sudden, the flash memory devices are becoming a hot topic.

The 2 flash memory devices are NOT the same.

The original has a 'Q' suffix. This means that the QE='1'. So QSPI mode is enabled.

The replacement is with a 'G' suffix. QE='0'.

To use the replacement, you must find a method to configure the QE bit to be '1'.

Do search for a compatible tool and share the details here. If there is a need, can develop one, as time permits.

    Update:

Wish to clarify...there is an assumption on my part that the original chip is still onboard with QE='1'. The only way to confirm is to check the schematics.

That is, it is possible the mfr of the logic board used this part but only after changing QE='0'.

    Then normal spi mode applies.

    Do note this possibility.

If possible, test the replacement with and without QE='1' setting.

Thanks for the update and closure.

Given that you went back to the original and all is working, reviewed the flash memory IC on this schematic.

          See attached.

Based on the flash pin labels, very confident that the original flash chip is being deployed in QSPI mode. That is, QE='1' is required.

The part # from the original flash IC has the 'Q' so it is factory default in QSPI mode.

The replacement part was not (by default) and would not work here unless you manually enable the same QE bit to be a '1' using a programmer.

In my opinion a Bad or Dry balls under SOC. Perhaps the heat applied during desoldering/soldering bios chip is making temporary connections under SOC. Thats my gut feeling but may be something else.

                                EC_RSMRST# 0v

EC is parked in the reset mode if this signal is LOW = 0 volts.

If available, can you link or post the schematic?

No, the reset line will be an external signal created by an external group of parts.

Check if there is a RC (resistor capacitor) circuit on this line. It should start from 0 volts but rest at 3v3 to release this line and only then then the EC will start it's function. The EC is a stand alone 8051 microcontroller with its own firmware. If parked in reset mode, the EC is sitting idle.
