WOW, I've seen bad, but this is way beyond that.
Whoever is producing these units seriously needs to consider recalling them. Looks like a fire hazard waiting for the right opportunity. Good this the whole thing is in a metal box, though.

Agreed hopefully the fuse blows before that junk has time to combust.

Strange defect cap 68mF 450v. In time on the power supply there was a loud click, and on the side of the cap formed bump.

Must be internally shorted, hence the ticking noise would have been the film inside arcing.

While looking for a 12v voltage adjuster I came across this junk that has fake rubycons its funny because most of the others (from different sellers) also had fake junk on them I would still buy one but would recap it

I'm not sure what that fibrous stuff is in the second pic. The "PCBs" in that second pic look to be lab prototypes rather that commercially produced. The datecodes on those pots is "9544", i.e. >19 years old. The pots could have been in some one's bin and taken out for use recently, but the glyptol added to keep the adjustment screws from shifting or being tampered with looks brownish (and what I'm used to seeing in red). I'm guessing the exploded cap in the second pic did so after many years of use.

I joined the site to post a couple.

This is out of a bad Delta made PSU in an older (~2006) gateway. The computer had been freezing up frequently. I figured it was the PSU and replaced it. I opened it up before and did a cursory once over to see if anything was obviously bad, and didn't see anything.

I took another deeper look this morning, and well well well.

That looks like one bulgy and leaky capxon cap to me.

Out of an older "allied" PSU, here is a bulging "rulycon". There were two of these on the secondary side, both bulging.

And then, for a change of pace, here are some "bad" caps. Some Su'scon in a 5 year old antec neo eco 400c that has been in near 24/7 use for 5 years, and they still look perfect. I replaced it with a new Seasonic, and I considered recapping it, but I decided it's not worth the headache.

Here are some nasty failed rubycons. In fairness, this isn't a "bad cap" issue I think, (thought it could be). This is out of an 11 year old MPC computer, with a Pentium 4- Celeron. The exahust fan right above this has loooooong since failed, so there was no airflow and they are right next to the CPU. This computer also ran pretty much 24/7 in the storeroom at the hospital I work in. Amazingly, the computer still ran, and didn't crash/reboot.

Hm, it isn't very powerful, but Delta makes very good PSUs. Might want to re-cap it

Haha yeah there are so many Rubycon imitators. Like Rulycon, Rukycon, and Rudoycon just to name a few.

Su'scon, in my book, aren't too bad. They have failed before, but they aren't like CapXon or Fuhjyyu! (Or Rulycon)

                                          From this page:
                                          http://www.elab.ph/forum/index.php?topic=44485.440

Fake NCC KMH series capacitor [s]exploded[/s] detonated.
There is a pic on that page that shows one of those caps cut open, showing a smaller capacitor inside, potted in some material. No wonder it exploded, it had nowhere to vent!

Edit: Why doesn't the strike-through BBcode work? I see it says BBcode is enabled.
Edit2: Why is the picture labeled as an attachment, with no thumbnail???
Maybe photocrapet has something to do with it, it was difficult to figure out how to save the picture.
