    Desoldering Question.

Hi. Its been awhile since i've soldered on a motherboard. The last one
I did was an 8088XT in 1990. SOME silly person (Ok, me  )
Plugged the connectors on wrong and blew out a cap . I replaced them
and Voila! it worked again. (Gotta love those indestructable XT's )

Anyway, My question is simple. Can i just use my desoldering iron to remove the solder through the bottom of the board? Will this damage or
remove the foil insert? Or will it simply not remove all the solder necessary to remove the cap? I'm not an expert in soldering, so far be
it for me to question Topcat's How-to, but I'm curious. ( Although I doubt the XT MB was 6-layer)

    Thanks
    Lucretia

if your desoldering iron gets hot enough it should do the trick.
the danger of tearing out the feedthru in the board comes from pulling the leads out before the solder is fully melted.
