Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello to all. Name is Roger. I'm a broad area tinker, master at nothing. Call me a wetback. I do have an Associates from way back in another life. Retired Field Engr for a major Telephone Carrier.

I'm also an Amateur Radio Op and I like to play around with simple, related circuitry.

I'm now trying to repair a couple of Ham Radios of mine.....so I'm learning a lot, spending hours studying Service Manuals etc...

I made a purchase of a lifetime, dream tool recently. Its Hakko 300. All I can say is "wow".

I have a Tektronix 350 Mhz Scope, new/old Sweep FG and now looking for a 500Mhz bench Freq Counter & VTVM.

Thats it in a nut shell, so I'm off to let out the magic smoke out of something.

    BCNU
    Cheers!

      Hey guys!

I'm an electrical engineer here in Phoenix Arizona. I won't bore you with all the details of my background so I can get to the funner stuff :-) Suffice it to say that I've been a board-level digital design engineer for 30+ years. I've enjoyed most of it, but have always wanted to play around a little more on the analog side. Being a hi-fi aficianado from the 70's, I decided a while back to start collecting vintage audio equipment and now have a nice little collection, most of which needs recapping and refurbishing, so I thought I might be able to learn a thing or two from this forum, and hopefully pass along some things that I've learned along the way. I'm also into music, classic rock mostly, but I wander the other genres quite frequently. I played the drums when I was younger, and have made it all the way to "advanced beginner" guitar ... not bad, since I started playing in college! :-)

I will now admit that I do have an ulterior motive for joining, as I am in the midst of trying to repair a Dell LCD monitor and was hoping to find some help on this forum. I hate to see things that can be easily fixed just thrown away, and since I've had some recent success fixing a couple of my cassette decks (and a refrigerator!), I'm now emboldened to attempt other repairs. Wish me luck ... I'm gonna need it! :-)

Allright then, let's have some fun and maybe learn something while we're at it!

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

            G'day
I studied electronics engineering (first exposure to a computer was a DEC PDP-8 with magnetic core memory and a punched card reader) and then moved more into electrical power engineering. Always enjoy tinkering with all sorts of "stuff" but not particularly knowledgeable about any of it. Most pleasure is in learning new things and this forum seems to have much to offer.

            Regards
            Ivan

                Hello everyone!

My name is Jeff or you can use my user name. My friend says "have you ever bought any piece of electronics and not opened it up right away to modify it in some way?". Of course the answer is no. Iv'e dabbled in almost everything from camera repair to welding. I came because I have a monitor that will be replacing caps on and have already gleaned the appropriate info, but will post if I have followup questions, but it seems straightforward.

Hi, I'm Pat and I'm tired of paying the high cost of getting my electronics repaired at the shop so I'm researching to see if I can do it myself. I appreciate any help in advance.
