Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello to all! I'm Skycap a brand spanking new member. Retired UPS Teamster. I am a big believer in the 3 R's, reuse, re purse, recycle. I love to repair things, which brings me to this forum with your great knowledge. I'm two of four on flat screen tv repairs, of course they were the ez bad caps repair. I may not bring a lot to the forum but I intend to ask questions and listen to those whose talent I admire.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Greetings, I am 31 have no training in electronics as such have learned everything myself through out the years.

I started at age 12 my first PC was a borrowed one from my uncle it was a 80286.

My first attempt of repairing a pc was back in school when I saw this 486 tower laying around in computer class and asked my teacher if I could repair it, He said go ahead and take it home and try to repair it. Long story short I disconnected the power supply leads from the motherboard and could remember which direction they would go in. I fried the motherboard.

          Hello.
I am new here I have been working in telecom for the last 25 years and before that industrial HVAC. I built my first pc in 1990 and several since. I have been messing with electronics my whole life. I joined here because it looks like a fine place to learn about what others are doing in this field and to get or give advice on trouble that may be encountered.

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

Hi! My name is Trish, I'm 30, and I joined this site because my 2003 temperamental Pimpala is now a teenager and is being an a-hole. I have been having a lot of issues with it the last three years and have spent a lot of money, but I am NOT going to throw in the towel just yet! My car is very sentimental to me because my grandpa bought it for me for graduation and then he passed two months later.

                                Hey Folks,

I've spent three days reading your forum, and just had to join. The depth of knowledge, patience, and willingness to help, is more than above & beyond.

I've been a marine mechanic for thirty eight years, and in that time one learns everything from Engines to Radar. And you get a real handle on A/C & D/C wiring and system design and budgeting.

I'm infected with the "I've GOT to be able to fix this!!" Bug! And now that I've got all this time on my brain, I'm trying to venture into the finer points of electronics.

This site is going to be a gold mine

Joined this forum from advice whilst searching online as I'm trying to repair my parents LG42PJ350. Believe there are some very intelligent people on here with experience in TV's, hence why I'm here.

                                          Hi all,

I'm Marc from the Netherlands. I was not familiar with this forum till I bumbed into some interesting stuff I found on this forum regarding a T-Con board issue that I'm investigating too..

I have a quite broad interest in electronics and have build several things like power supplies and VHF/UHF transmitters and amplifiers in the past. I like the analogue and RF stuff, but would like to learn also other areas of electronics. For some years I was not doing a lot with my hobby but would like to pick it up again and learn some new techniques like e.g. soldering SMD stuff..

                                          Best Regards,

                                          Marc
