    Taiwan's Acer on Monday said it will buy Gateway for $710 million, creating the world's No. 3 PC maker, as Acer doubles its presence in Gateway's lucrative but highly competitive home market. article

    Like Micron PC before it, Gateway has been on a downward slide here in the 'States and is considered a 'has been'. Their retail stores simply drained their capital years ago. Dell and e-machines crushed them from both sides. IBM also was a casualty and has left the PC market. HP/Compaq is also struggling in the desktop market. e-machines is still around, but boy do they sell crap. Dell is the lone winner in the USDM.
    Good for the Gateway stock holders at least.
