    Vestel 17IPS72 Turn off issue

    Hi,

I have a TV which goes into stand by after about 5- 10 minutes. The PSU seems very hot especially around Capacitors, Diodes on isolated side and MOSFET MDD14N25 is also getting extremely hot. The diodes checkout ok.

What is most likely cause of overheat?? and where to start checking/replacing first.

    Thanks in advance

Can we see some pictures, I.E.the whole backside of the TV, the boards, so we can see what we are dealing with? Use 'Go Advanced' to attach the pictures.

Hi, apologies for delay. Here are photos. Excuse the mess. The screen was damaged so I just want to use the backlight. Have used a 7805 to supply 5v signal to keep on but it turns off after a while.

Perhaps running it this way has the leds at maximum brightness which is causing the shurdown.

Re: Vestel 17IPS72 Turn off issue Solved

          Think I've cracked it.

I put a fan on the 12V and the 7805 on the 24v and it is staying on now.

Probably needs load on both the 12v and 24v lines.

In process of converting the loft and is perfect lighting

          Thanks for the help

Couldn't you put the 7805 on the 12V suppply so it wouldn't run so hot.

Re: Vestel 17IPS72 Turn off issue

Could do its just that I had a 12v fan to load the 12v rail and the 7805 can load the 24v rail. Its still within 7805 spec but if I get a 24v fan then I'll swap it round

Re: Vestel 17IPS72 Turn off issue

But if you run it on the 12V supply you hopefully would not need the fan to cool it.
                As an example:-
If you are running it at 200mA on the 24V supply then to drop 19V across the 7805 to give 5V output would dissipate 0.2A x 19V = 3.8 Watts

If it was on the 12v supply then it would be 0.2A x 7V = 1.4Watts
and perhaps would not need the fan to cool it.

I'll give it a try and feedback.

I would like the fan connected though especially during hot summers if we ever get them in the UK
