Replace memory module with lower density

Hello. Im playing with the idea of using a Samsung K4ZAF325BM hc14 to replace a faulty hc16 on my rx 6800

I have some hc14 on stock but no hc16 and want to get The graphicscard going until hc16 arrives.

    Is this possible?
If it is do you loose 1gb or 8g vram in that case?

I was too curious. Had to try it so i just yolo it.
It Kinda works and Kinda not. I did get image but i guess What happens is you loose 1gb and The gpu sends 2gb to that chip.
Some parts of The image gets lost.

Anyway i got to see that The graphicscard Will work when i get The new chips.

    Not only a loss atleast

Possibly you could get it working by flashing a BIOS of a card that actually have the same or lower amount of memory as what you installed.
You can look in the Techpowerup GPU BIOS database for one.

There is only 16gb bios there. But i found a supplyer in EU and ordered some correct ones. Should in 1-2 weeks. I guess i just need to wait 🙂
