Currently my best machine is a socket 775 Abit IP35 Pro with Q6600 processor, 8GB Ram and GTX 570 video card. For what I do, this is fine.
I'm looking to assemble a desktop machine using used components. Or would I be better off to buy a complete used machine, which would likely end up being some off-lease Dell or HP tower or whatever? Looking for a low cost solution. I don't need gaming or video editing power. Looking for durability and no flakiness with the ability to upgrade as needed. I will be running Linux Mint so Windows compatibility does not matter.
Is socket 1155 still current? I have seen the following boards: Asus P8Q77-M and Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM. They support I3, I5 and I7 processors. Are these good or would another manufacturer be better? My experience with Asus P5 boards is that they are junk.
What are the corresponding AMD boards. Are they still using socket AM3?
What are the pros and cons of Intel and AMD right now?
Interested in your opinions.
