Managed to acquire another amp .

Swapped out the volume control , to prove beyond any doubt that's the cause of the problem.

Stripped down the control again & this time discovered the issue .

There's a break in some of the tracks , which i didn't notice before ,as they are at the very bottom end where the plastic frame is .

tried to to link , but solder won't take & to be honest wouldn't have worked correctly anyway .

Now need to source correct control .

Can anyone help ?

17B503 printed on casing , therefore seems to be 50K

Been doing some detective work of my own.

ALPS RK16812MG seem to cover this range of motor driven potentiometers .

From there i found adding 04YA at the end brings up a 50K type on E BAY .

Ali Express is cheaper though.

Only issue might be is if potentiometer track differs , but at that price , worth a pop.

i have in the past changed just the tracks from a parts unit . also have bought or sent to me for free from the manufacturer .

no it wasn't but was same sort of pot .well the one i used from scrap unit was the same . others were different .

I suspect Onkyo are quite tight on supplying part to non agents .

Did that worked? My Onkyo a-9010 is with the exact same problem.

Oficial repairer wants 170€ which is almost the same that I paid for it 6 years ago, ridiculous.
