    HP Pavilion 15 (R62) not powering on with charger

    Hi,

    Please, i need help with my HP Pavilion 15 (R62). It's not powering ON with the charger only. But it powers On and display with Battery and charger connected or battery Only connected.

    It charges the battery normally though.

    I noticed it gets abnormally hot around PL11 (Coil), PQ29 and PQ32. And there's a voltage drop at PL11. With battery and charger connected, my multi-meter reads 12.89 volts entering it from Charging IC (PU5) and 12.77v leaving it to +BATCHG.

    I've replaced PL11 and still same problem. I have also replaced PU5 just in case it might be faulty, yet no luck.

    I have attached my multi-meter voltage readings of PU5 and some additional pics.

    Thanks in advance.

        With a 45W charger AD ID 0.46V perfect did you try with a different charger is the DC jack light in on ?

          Haven't tried with a different charger yet. DC Jack light comes on

              Hi,

              In mine,
              Pin 15 = 1.88v
              Pin 18 = 16.66v

              The remaining pins are of the same values as the values in the picture you posted.

              I don't have an Oscilloscope yet.

                the battery is charging. If the problem is not starting the notebook, is your Stby voltage 3.3v? Program bios if there is 3.3v (PU9).

                  by Stby voltage (Standby), which pin are you referring to?

                  PU9 Pin 6 = 3.3v present
                  PU10 Pin 6 = 5v present

                  But I noticed there is 0.86v on PL24 when the system is in off state but connected to either charger, battery or both. When switched On (on battery), it goes to 5v.

                    Will reprogramming of the BIOS solve the issue of the charging section getting very hot?

                    I suspect a partial short or damaged component somewhere around the charging section but i can't pinpoint it yet.

                        Warming in the charging circuit will not be resolved with the Bios program. PQ35 is the battery switch, n-mosfet. With the adapter + battery there should be D 19v, S 12.6v, G 3.3v. When the adapter is removed, D 12.6v, S 12.7v, G 25v.

                        SIO pin 64 = 1,5v need to be

                          Voltage on PQ35

                          Without Adapter

                          D = 11.97V
                          S = 11.97V
                          G = 18.05

                          With Adapter

                          D = 19.66V
                          S = 12.68V
                          G = 12.67V

                            SIO Pin 64 @ 1.5v seems unlikely to me. 0.46v seems to be the right value for AD_ID using 45W Adapter usually on most HP Laptops

                                The voltage on the PQ35 is also ok. + 5v ALWV can come off after start.

                                  Try with 65W Adapter. This unit requires 65W atleast and not 45W afaik.

                                    I guess this is it. The unit finally came on with a 65W adapter. BUT still gets hot but NOT as hot as when a 45W adapter was being tested with it. Thanks.

                                      Oh, i forgot to mention, this unit is "DIS". So maybe using a 90W adapter won't make it get hot as it used to. Maybe just a little warm I guess.

                                      It didn't even occur to me, maybe because I was working along side with that of a "UMA" unit. Meanwhile, that UMA unit is still faulty but I'll open a new thread for that.
