    Agilent DSO-X 2012A no power repair

    Well, my trusted Agilent DSO-X 2012A quit on me this morning after an hour of work. Darrn... in the middle of something of course.
    Called Agilent Tech Support and they were awesome in helping me to find a new one (Thanks bud R.R.!).

    Anyway... since that bean is already bad, why not open it and see if I can fix it? Sorry no pics this time around. However here is the fix:

    * Fuse F1 blown 250V 6.3V mini
    * Main filter capacitor dead short and hot as @#$%^! 420V 100uF

    Took the main filter cap out, checked for other shorts or opens on the PSU and I didn't find any. Replaced the fuse and the main filter cap with parts out of my bin and all is O.k.

    Happy ending at least. Back to work.

    Cost: Zero $$$

      I should have figured that you would want to know...

      It was a Nichicon GU(M) series, 105C rated. 420V, 100uF

      Visually it is looking normal, maybe a slight bulge on the top if light shines on it. However it has a dead short like 0.2 Ohm.

      I replaced it with a 400V, 120uF cap I had... and the fuse too... Works fine as kind!
      The PSU has a PFC built in. Does 12V at like 10 amps or so. Look at the attachment.

        hang on, why does a scope need 12v at 10A??

          Good question. Apparently the PSU only has one output and that is 12V and it can do 10 amps. I don't know why that ole scope needs that kind of power, but it does have a few extra things like a generator.

              yeah... the Siglent is very nice for the money. Mine is getting old now, but still works good... well... as long as the caps don't short out...
