    Sony MHC-EC919IP turns off

So this is not a right expensive unit but i'd like to fix it if i can. The unit will shut itself off approximately 5 seconds after it turns on. I re-soldered a cap that had a cold solder joint. It seemed to work for a while but now it's back to turning off again. Im thinking i should have swapped the cap right out with a new one now. I find the led display to be dim also but i dont know if that is related to this issue. If anyone had a similar experience with this unit or a similar one, let me know what you did to resolve the issue. Thanks.

Actually the first one is corrupt. This service manual is a bit better: https://servicemanuals.us/sony/audio...p.html?start=0

Ok so the stereo wont even turn on now so i dug a little deeper. The power supply tests fine but the 12v from main board is not present. The 36v is present from the PSU and apparently it is supposed to step down to 12v on the main board but this doesn't seem to be happening. The 12v reading on main board is only showing 1v.

This guy here is having the same problem as me with the same build stereo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwR_Mow5Zoo

What he did was remove components from the PSU and added a 12v adapter kit to it. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of an easier way of doing this? I tested the caps on the main board and they all seem fine. I'm assuming the guy in the video would have replaced those first if those were the culprits anyways.

Would i just be able to tap into the 36v connection and just install this regulator? https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/d...36HE-C/6817695

So this will step down the 36v and can run it to the 12v out on main?

Why don't you check the circuit around U4 and if the ic is bad, replace it? If you have the service manual can you attach it?
