high esr on new rubycon caps

Hi , i just bought some 47uf 50v caps from farnell , the esr of the cap i took out was around 0.8 the new ones measure 1.8 which seems too high , are these a bad batch do you think ?

You'd have to look at the spec for the part. Did you buy the same mfr and series or an equivalent part?

The caps i removed were JEC cd110 these are what i used to replace them :

          those are not low-impedence caps

So as a general rule when replacing caps , i would need to see if the caps removed were low esr or not , ?
i just thought i needed to check capacitance value and voltage , .

depending on the use, different things may be required.
a high frequency circuit needs low esr, and low frequency or dc psu's for example will not care but ripple current handling will play a bigger role.

Thanks for that info , learnt something new today , I will pay more attention when looking at esr charts in future .
So there must be different charts for low esr ?

esr is stated in the datasheets of low esr caps,
but not in "general purpose" caps.

Re: high esr on new rubycon caps

So for power supply boards for example if i had no schematic or the capacitor which needed to be replaced, make could not be identified would it always be better to use low esr caps , ?

Using a low impedance part for general purpose decoupling may be moderate overkill, but the extra cost is moderate (or less), and the low impedance part might last longer.
