Question about capacitor size with same rating

If the capacitor rating is identical but if the replacement capacitor is smaller in size, does it matter?

Re: Question about capacitor size with same rating

If by "rating" you mean capacitance and voltage, it often does matter, because the temperature, impedance, and ripple current rating often matter a lot.

On the other hand, if you are comparing a 30 year old capacitor and a 2021 manufactured capacitor of the same capacitance, voltage, temperature, impedance, and ripple current ratings, the newer part might be smaller, due to technology progress.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

I'm looking to replace Rubycon 2700uf 6.3v MFZ series and 1500uf 16v MCZ series on an old xbox 360. I couldn't find a datasheet for either rubycon series. Which capacitor brand and series is appropriate for a game console? Would a capacitor labeled for general purpose and with low impendence work?

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

          Title:
Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition

          Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

          Procedure performed:
          - Removed backplate
          - Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
          - Reapplied thermal compound
          - Reassembled card

          Observed behavior after reassembly:
          - GPU powers on and operates normally under...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
          by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
          Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

Motor run capacitor physical size vs voltage rating & measurements?
          by Per Hansson
          (TL;DR skip the first paragraph)
I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
(Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.
I monitored it starting and stopping for over an hour until it finally stopped in a specific spot between its windings:
          Then it could...

Notice to users of XGecu TL866II Plus / T48 / T56 / T76 programmers regarding BIOS backup file size
          by m1ch43lzm
          Hi everyone
I noticed on the Xgpro software the BIOS backup files have extra bytes at the end when reading some chips, this is because the Xgpro software also reads the OTP region of those flash chips, and by default will append that region to the saved file
          Programmer models: XGecu TL866II Plus / T48 / T56 / T76

Example: GD25LQ128D (1.8V), IC size is listed as 0x1000000 Bytes (16777216 bytes) + 0xC00 bytes, those extra 0xC00 bytes will be appended to the end of the saved file by default, resulting in a file size of 16780288 bytes
There's also an extra OTP Secu.R...

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
