I'm also looking for a scope but have some requirements

I'm in the market for a good reliable scope but I have some basic requirements
for troubleshooting old x-y vector monitors and game boards. If you have a
good suggestion please include brand and model number. I have $1500 to send.

ATARI REQUIREMENTS:

- at least 50MHz
- dual trace
- 5mv per division or better
- vertical sensitivity (rise-time capability) of 5ns or less
- internal synchronization features
- an internal and external sync feature, along with delayed sweep
- and a Z-axis input

So, what do you guys think?

I know this doesn't answer your question as in "make model price"
but hope it helps anyway

New or Second hand?

scopes that were worth a fortune can be had quite cheaply now.
TeKtronics is one to look at I have seen many $$$ for a lot less $$$
BUT having said that. you may have problems with older ones if you need parts
I am talking the old CRT jobs but have seen the LCD type ones.
lest wise what I see on Ebay
there are companies that deal in second hand tech stuff too


Another possibility is scopes with storage
(capture a sample of the waveform)

I an not up on what available these days if you in the market for a new one
most are now the LCD (using the term loosely here) storage type things.
that do have possible draw backs (DSO)

these are discontinued models at tek here
that you might get second hand for a reasonable price
(just beware of replacement parts availability)

Who makes a decent scope at a good price these days I don't know

There are also scope box type things (and SW)
you can get for use with computer but got no idea on what they are capable of specs wise
(I am thinking not much really but could be wrong
Someone may actually make a high quality digital storage box
(read as CRO without a screen),
its really only a matter of sending the sampled info to a computer)

New or used doesn't matter I have 1500 to spend. Everything you mentioned Starfury1,
I already know. But, I don't know what scopes out there have all the requirements I need.
Some new scopes don't even have a Z-axis input.

I was hoping to get a reply from someone who knows what BRAND & MODEL to buy that
doesn't have model specific flaws or failures but yet has the requirements I need in a scope.
I don't have the time to research tons of scopes to find what I need. I was hoping someone
out there might have the 10 or 20 years of using scopes who would know what's out there
and what's reliable.

My luck, I'd spend weeks researching info on various brands/models and then purchase one
only to find out the one I chose as some quirky messed up inherent problem, there are some
scopes out there like that. If anyone has a suggestion on a BRAND & MODEL that would be great.

Looks like I'll be buying a Tek 475A (probes & manuals included)
calibrated and ready to use for $248

yeah wish I could have had a more direct answer for you.

The above does sound like a good deal though
(I wouldn't say no )

Tek should serve you well from the quick look at the specs , its an older model
Hope its a well care for unit for you too.

Looking at eBay there are several of these scopes available. Lowest price being $249.00 without probes or manual. Others with all goodies up to $500+. So the deal you quote sounds very good.
