I know somewhere out there in this forum. I just wanted to ask somehow how can I learn chip level motherboard repair? like soldering, changing IC's and proper diagnostics. Is there any book or videos that you can advice to me. I mean a good book or video tutorials out there that I can learn and benefit from it.

Re: How can I learn?
You do need to learn to solder
You need to get a good temp controlled soldering iron this is a must
A desoldering station would a good idea also it make it a lot easier to remove parts9 PC LCD Monitor
6 LCD Flat Screen TV
30 Desk Top Switching Power Supply
10 Battery Charger Switching Power Supply for Power Tool
6 18v Lithium Battery Power Boards for Tool Battery Packs
1 XBox 360 Switching Power Supply and M Board
25 Servo Drives 220/460 3 Phase
6 De-soldering Station Switching Power Supply 1 Power Supply
1 Dell Mother Board
15 Computer Power Supply
1 HP Printer Supply & Control Board * lighting finished it *
These two repairs where found with a ESR meter...> Temp at 50*F then at 90*F the ESR reading more than 10%
1 Over Head Crane Current Sensing Board ( VFD Failure Five Years Later )
2 Hem Saw Computer Stack Board
All of these had CAPs POOF
All of the mosfet that are taken out by bad caps

Re: How can I learn?
want to do component level motherboard repairs?.. well where to start.. download a bunch of free schematics of laptops and see if you can understand the first thing.. when you realise you don't.. then learn basic electronics 101 .. it all becomes clear after that and all those video channels on youtube fixing consumer electronics make sense. While you are discovering an 80 page schematic drawn by somebody off their heads on whatever at Apple one day is wrong and doesn't even make sense you can learn to solder.. One of the best ways to learn to solder is to buy dirt cheap chinese kits off ebay and jump right in.. I learned to solder in literally one 30 minute session.... my "mentor" showed me how.. it's not hard.. I've been in this game 40 years and I'm still learning stuff.. Started out with lethal ancient rental tv's with tubes in.. computers and phones didn't exist.. moved up to transistor and ic stuff in tv's in the early 80.s as they became old low end rental junkers or cheap sales goods.. did that as a job til the death of consumer electronics repair around the mid 90's.. packed it in for close to 20 years and did something else... find myself now back doing this crap and being the "mentor" to a new generation..
so advice?.. download schematics and look at them.. that's how we fault find things that show no outward signs of failing.. while learning that build cheap ass kits from China.. gets your soldering up to speed.. it's easy... then go to the local e-waste place, or down the cellar, or the local street corner dump.. and gather electronic devices and see if you can work them out.. many will be beyond repair.. but the satisfaction of watching a 40 inch tv you found in a field and repaired is immense

Re: How can I learn?
May be you should tell us more about you first as to what your experience and capabilities level you have, I.E. you can read schematic diagrams, good with hand soldering and good with SMD reworks, what kind of tools you have, etc.Last edited by budm; 06-15-2016, 02:50 PM.Never stop learning

Re: How can I learn?
Yes, I think Budm is correct. For instance, if you want to repair computer motherboards, before you learn to solder, you should probably have a good understanding of how they work and what parts make up a computer mother and maybe even how those parts communicate with each other. I think having a proper understanding of something you plan on repairing can be extremely beneficial and will help in the long run. If it's just a time thing, it might not be worth the time, but if you're serious, if you don't already know, perhaps there's a good starting point.-- Law of Expanding Memory: Applications Will Also Expand Until RAM Is Full
