This found its way to my workbench this week.
Wired Wall Light Cam S100
The buyer thought he got a great deal but it turns out it was likely dead and the seller tried to get anything they could for it by passing it off on an unsuspecting buyer.
Rather than tossing it in the bin he gave it to me to play with as he knows how much I love to try to solve problems like these.
The camera portion of this device worked fine when powered via USB but when on the mains it would not work at all.
This reminded me of the eufy floodlight camera i was able to fix not too long ago.
I pulled out my thermal camera to see what i could see from the outside and the mounting base was getting hot.
I looked for the FCC filing for pictures of the internals and found some good ones.
While the unit was not totally dead (I could hear a small clicking sound inside the main housing where the camera was) it was DOA otherwise.
Everything looked fine visually on the power supply.
I applied power to it and again and took a look with the FLIR.
Right away you could see some components on small breakout board (the one standing straight up) were getting very hot very fast.
I applied IPA to cool everything down quickly and took a video trying to catch exactly which SMD was the main culprit.

It was a lone 0805 capacitor at C1.
I checked it with a multimeter and sure enough it read as shorted.
There was another cap at C3 that was nearly identical so i removed it to measure its capacitance.
It read 1 uF.
So i replaced the shorted one with a 1206 as i dont have 0805s on hand at the moment.
I checked for other shorted caps and found none.
I re-applied power to the light and the wall light fired right up no problem.
Gotta give credit to the board designers at Anker/Eufy this time around.
They seem to have mounted the component(s) which were most likely to fail and need replacement in an easily accessable place for ease or repair and refurbishment.
Hope this helps anyone else who comes across similar issues with these types of devices.
