    LG Fridge Retrofit

    http://ca.lge.com/en/ir/html/ABboard...eases_read.jsp

A bad cap causes the condenser motor to fail, which will overheat the compressor and cook your fridge.

I took a look at the general nature of appliance repairs at our store and noticed a good portion of control boards and such being fixed, a lot more than even a few yrs ago. So I've educated our tech on blown caps and he's looking for em now. Considering that a board can cost as much at $500 to replace, kinda makes one wonder.
I'll post pics as we find em.

i see a ton of appliance boards in for repair.many are not built to withstand the envirionment of say a washer or dishwasher.best bet is to avoid appliances with electronics.
    and ge stuff in general.

      Re: LG Fridge Retrofit

Some of us have heard when the electronic control panel in a refrigerator fails, the refrigerator does not work, and therefore after some time, the food inside goes bad. Big problem!

In such appliances, there should be a redundant controller, which switches on when the primary controller has failed. It should also indicate a service light as well, even though the redundant controller is still working.

(The ECU in the VN Commodore we once owned failed twice - in many cases, an expensive and sometimes hard to find component!). Again, big problem!
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Liebherr Fridge Freezer KGT 3456 not working
        by CG2
To be a bit more specific, I've got a 20-ish year old Liebherr that has just stopped working. This was quite a sophisticated beast for its time. It's a twin compressor model, and you set the desired temperatures of the fridge and freezer parts from a couple of little control panels above the door. It displays the actual temps on some eight segment displays there, flashing if it's working to get to where you want it. There's a control board with a microprocessor on it that read the temperature from a couple of sensors, switches the compressors on as necessary, and runs the display. There's also...

        Fridge - Gram
        by tmcw
Have this fridge, laboratory grade unit, not working fully.

It's designed with a chilling unit at the top, on the inside, and a fan just below that. When the door is closed, the fan blows the cold air down through the fridge, and when the door opens, the fan switches off, presumably so that it doesn't blow all the cold air out.

The fan isn't switching on, so in addition to not having uniform cold throughout the fridge, the chilling tubes tend to ice up. I took the lid off the top, electronics are in the lid, and when the door is opened and closed, I can hear the relevant...

20 year old Kenmore refrigerator ice maker bad water valve coil took a crap
        by sam_sam_sam
I got lucky that when I got home and was about to get some ice out of the ice dispenser I hear and see water running down the outside of the ice dispenser what the heck is going on here

At first I thought that the ice dispenser mold was cracked so I brought a new ice maker because this one has been in there for about 10 years now

Well I put the new one in and wait and I wait for the water valve to open and let water in no such luck well there is a way to check the function of the motor and the water valve on this ice maker just need a jumper wire “L” to...

        Beko fridge compressor clicking
        by Liam.25
        Hello,

our fridge and freezer stopped cooling last weekend, it’s a Beko fridge.

looking at the bottom, I can hear the relay clicking on the plug attached to the compressor.

There is also a 3uf capacitor, I’m thinking this is a run capacitor, I tested this with my fluke and and it measured at 1.5uf, so I replaced this (new one tested just over 3uf) so that’s where it should be.

I was thinking this was the issue. The compressor seem to run for like a minute then shutoff again.

inside the relay, there is a Klixon 4tm thermistor,...

Cooling upgrade on refrigerator. If it works, it ain't stupid!
        by Th3_uN1Qu3
I had this refrigerator at my old folks which I noticed I would put my beer or soda in and take it out warmer than I'd brought it from the store.

Now, I don't know much about refrigerators or HVAC but to me it seemed like we have a problem. I threw a thermometer in... 20 deg C in the fridge. WHAT THE... Freezer worked fine with temperatures way below zero, as it should, and it has only one compressor for both sides so it got me scratching my head for a while.

Only other things that seemed a bit odd was that the heatsink on the back was barely warm and the...
