Fix broken tinsel wire on Speaker

    Hi everyone,

I've saved a pair of Philips AH 495 speakers from landfill and diagnosed the woofers are not working due to a loose or broken tinsel wire just on the joint of the cone (left wire on the picture)

What's the best and easiest way to fix this without damaging the cone ?
Can this be simple soldered on?

normally yes should replaced the whole tinsel wire, though if you're really careful you could remove part of the black glue and solder the wire back there. Having the solder there will likely make your speaker sound funny and definitely will reduce your power limit else you may rip the tinsel wire again, solder is made of lead...

Once I have fixed a Klipsch 10" sub by replacing the tinsel wire, it went well. The only issue I still had, that at every turn on, I heard a pop from the amp.

I have done a few on 15 inch cones. What I do is get about 2 or three small Sucher's ...lift up the glue and expose the wire running back to the VC. Then Clamp on the Sucher's to the wire as a Heat sink and resolder the wire. Sometimes do to the make up of some of the lead wires the solder will not stick. Just my $.02 worth.

Glade to hear you at least got it back on.
