Replacement caps for Samson Resolv studio monitor 65A Amp board.

    Good day!

I have a Samson Resolv studio monitor that has no sound output. I've opened it up and found two caps that are bulging on what I believe to be the power supply section of the amplifier board. The board is marked Resolv 65A AMP V1.2. The caps in question are YUSCON, 2200uF, 35V, 85C temp and have markings of RA(P) and are 16mm x 25.5mm tall. I've attached the schematic and the caps in question are C5 and C6. I'm assuming they are low esr caps. I've tested both caps and they test low uF, nowhere near 2200uF.

I'm going to replace the caps and I'll be the first to admit I know very little. Am I best off finding an exact replacement or should I go with another size and voltage assuming I have room on the board? Like 3300uF 50V perhaps? What cap would you recommend in either case. I had purchased some caps (2200uF, 35V) off of Amazon but the case size is smaller although the specs are the same. I don't really want to be doing this again in the near future so I'm not adverse to buying a reputable manufacturer's product. I'm open for recommendations. Again, I am making a number of assumptions here so please correct me if I'm wrong. Any tips for me?

    Thanks so much for reading!

They are just general purpose capacitors.

85 Degree Celsius capacitors aren't going to be Low ESR, they are usually either general purpose, bi-polar, or audio grade capacitors.

Will low ESR hurt in this case? The schematic is attached in my first post if that helps.. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. I'd found the data sheet prior but I'm still very much in a learning phase...

Low ESR shouldn't hurt. I would stick with the same capacitance, same or higher voltage, and at least 105°C. I would definitely recommend using name brand capacitors (Elna, Nippon Chemi-Con/United Chemi-Con, Nichicon, Panasonic, Rubycon, or Würth Elektronik capacitors). Those caps from Amazon could be over-rated on the sleeving, especially if they're smaller, and they probably only last 1000 hours at 85°C, whereas any 105°C capacitor would last at least twice as long in the same situation.

Double-check the measurements before you buy, but most 2200uF 35V capacitors are going to be 16mmx25mm or less.

Thanks! I'll order some new ones. General purpose, 105C, 2200uF. On my way to ebay...

                  Sorry, don't buy from eBay.

                  Buy from DigiKey e.g https://www.digikey.com/en/products/...M16X25/3134252

                  Or Mouser

I tried ordering from digikey and they want me to send a copy of my drivers license to prove who I am. I'm not comfortable with that. For a $16.00 order. I'll try Mouser, thanks.

That's weird. They shouldn't need that if you sign up as an individual, but Mouser is also a good option. Hopefully, you can go through them without the driver's license.
