Pioneer VSX-40 shut down after a few seconds

    Hey folks,
This is the first receiver I'm attempting to fix. It is another e-waste bin rescue. After plugging in, it powers off after a few seconds and smells slightly of burnt electrical components. I imagine this is a protection mode. It isn't hooked up to any speakers or anything. Any idea where I should start looking? What is the general methodology to repairing a receiver in protection mode?

    Cheers,
    Alex

I would start by measuring the final transistors on the big heatsink, I would look for a short.

I would start with a service manual.

Couldn't find an SM. I thought I found on on elektrotanya, but after downloading it, it was for a different model.

I'll see if I can find anything on the big heatsink.

        Thanks,
        Alex

Maybe, you can use a similar model's SM.
