Electrotanya-Help PLEASE!

Hello All,

I tried today to sign into Electrotanya for a service manual after not doing so for awhile. Only because I'd downloaded their limit of two downloads in one day. So I tried to create a new account and the site says that I need to be invited to sign up to use their website or have someone vouch for me? They don't use a test to get in anymore I guess! Can anyone here on this site help me out or am I screwed on this problem?

Last I checked (2 days ago), you don't need to sign in in Elektrotanya to download stuff.

Have you tried accessing the site from a PC with a different IP address (such as work, friend's house, etc.)?

Elektrotanya is extremely fiddly when it comes to the download links and what browser you use.

- In Opera, it doesn't seem to work at all ("Get Manual" never appears, no matter what you do)
- In Chrome, it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (seemingly random ; refreshing the page if the link doesn't appear magically makes it work usually)
- In Firefox it always works, as long as you don't have any blocking-plugins active (Noscript, Adblock Plus, etc.)
- In IE, it pretty much works all the time (go figure)

Hello Again,

You're only allowed (2) downloads a day without signing into an account with this site. So I tried using my username and password that did work before and the site won't take either. So then I tried to set up a new account and the site says that you need to be invited to sign up for a account at Electrotanya or have someone recommend you to the site like a reference? Can anyone shed any light on this or I guess am limited to (2) downloads a day!

This may or may not help, but try clearing all your cookies, temp files, cache data, etc in whatever browser you are using and try again.

I get email when I do not use it for a long time, so I log in once a week.

Electrotanya is so very useful, but it is very poorly designed. I wish someone would download all the manuals and just host them on an http server somewhere. Just a list of files.

I could do the hosting if someone gets me the files :P
But I bet whoever downloadeds the stuff with their account will get banned (a bit suspicious trying to download everything :P), so not really a good idea, especially since it's invitation only.

I've never been able to find anyone who's registered there and willing to invite me in years, but as of recent, I don't really use it much anymore..
Too many bugs, wrongly labeled files and the stupid 2 DL limit results in lot of f-bombs when you've spent your 2 downloads on junk/useless files..

Yes, I was trying to download a manual too the other day and it didn't work in FF. Worked fine in IE5 (yes I kid you not - Internet Explorer version FIVE... because I was sitting on one of my Win 2k test installs and suddenly felt like looking something up).

Hey All,

So I guess there alot of ideas on how everyone would make Electrotanya better. I wish someone else had all those files that really knew how to manage them better! I will probably just settle for the (2) download limit (Stupid!)

I wonder what the logic is behind requiring an invite/referral to get an account on Electrotanya? Are they breaking into the social media arena like Facebook where you can "friend" someone? What's next...maybe the "secret handshake"?

I cannot really complain about Elektrotanya (I am registered member), it is free and it has a lot of service manuals that you do not have to pay for. I use Chrome and no problem downloading at all.

You don't need an invitation, just go to the about page and click on fill up a test.

Do the test and you get an account. Google the answers if needed.

If you fail the test, just clear the cookies, set up a proxy and use another email address to redo the test.

Testing is currently down on the site. You can only get in by way of invitation. I believe so much in repair of TV's but I really need an invite. I wish that someone would PM me and then I would send you my email address and get the ball rolling. (talking to you budm). 2 download limit is not workable since they only show you the first page of the manual and its not enough to go by to know if its a useful item. Thanks.

I did it the hard way and passed the electronics test to qualify, but I don't know if they still have that. My login would have expired now, pretty sure if you don't login after a certain period it gets wiped.

2 a day is pretty good if you're a hobbyist and for free. The problem I had was i was a "taker" and not a "giver" so I downloaded heaps but had very little or nothing to give back. Your download limit is determined by how much you take against what you have to put into there database.

pretty soon my download limit was less than the 2 per day and I have not logged back in since.

i guess if you were an industry professional and had access to material not on electrotanya then that would work out.

I am assuming this is still the case.
