    Asus p5ld2

Hello, I'm new member to the forums but visited here many years ago to get replacement caps for my ABIT BP6 motherboard.

I have an ASUS P5LD2 motherboard that was experiencing random hard shut downs. I noticed it had 2 yellow capacitors 6.3v 680uF that the K indent on the top looked like it was slightly buldging.

Can someone recommend a replacement for these caps?

Picture of one of the caps borrowed from toms hardware (right above the blue IDE):

    Thanks for your help

Those yellow caps, even if they are bulging, are good. Very high quality caps. If my memory serves me correctly, you should have some brown coloured capacitors next to the CPU socket with a honeycomb shaped vent. If they say KZG on them, then they should be replaced.

You were correct, there are qty 5 - 6.3v 1500uf, qty 5 16v - 1000uf that sit around the cpu socket and qty2 16v - 470uf by the pcie 16x and the pcie 1x.They are all marked KZG.

There are other smaller caps the same color marked KMG (untied chemicon i think) & TMV, and a mess of 6.3V 820uF caps that are black and gold with 52IVGC marked in small red letters.

I am going to order up the the caps that are >= 1000uF.

The KMG, TMV, and gold/black (Panasonic general purpose) are OK and should not be replaced.

If you could provide a picture of the 52IVGC just so that I can confirm that they're Panasonic general purpose...

The KZG needs to be replaced with Nichicon HM. Note the diameter (They are probably 8mm and NOT 10mm wide) and look up the correct equivalent at Mouser. Make sure it's in stock before ordering.

For the cap by the PCIe x16 port, note the height. If the replacement is too long, it could obstruct the videocard's heatsink, thus preventing the videocard from being seated correctly.

52IVGC sounds like a panasonic datecode.
if so, black/gold would indicate a low esr panny..
i bet it's FM or FL

I guess those are Panasonic FJ or FJS, they are good caps.

I took some pictures of the caps around the motherboard. The yellows are the ones that are slightly bulged at the top. There are also a few lonely looking blue ones hanging around also.

Yea, replace the KZG, leave everything else. Don't replace the bulged yellow ones, firstly, because reportedly, they were known to bulge, but this did not affect their performance, and secondly, you would have to trace their circuit to find out if they're part of the VRM if you did decide to change them.

The logic behind that is that Asus probably halved the capacitance of the bumblebees if they were part of the VRM. If that were the case, you would have to double the capacitance if going with an electrolytic, though don't quote me on this.

Should the 16v - 470uf KZG also be replaced by the Nichicon HM series?

I'm not really sure how to tell if the yellow caps are part of the VRM, so I will leave them for now.

                    Thanks again

Yes, absolutely they should be reaplaced.

I replaced the caps, and used the mobo in a freenas server. It's been up running for 4 days straight so far. Thanks again for all the help.

Hi, i also have this same board (P5LD2VM-DH version)

Some time ago the computer started to freeze with no reason. Then it started to freeze during windows booting screen. Only after three or four resets i was able to start windows.
but things were not running smoothly, besides its 3G of ram, the system was very very slow.

i saw this post and though i sould give it a try. replaced all 820uF caps.
my question is, should i change also de 1000uF caps (around the cpu) or if the system is ok, leave them ?

thanks for your time and patience.

I should correct some misinformation I posted back in 2011... TMV caps should indeed be replaced...

When you say you replaced the 820uF caps, what did you use as their replacements? What brand are the 1000uF caps? What is the model of your power supply?

i have replaced them from KZG to KZE (820uF 25v, eletronic shop only had those ones availables)
1000uF are also KZG. the new ones i have already bought are KSC. should i replace them?
                              should i replace the TMVs?

                              thanks.

How did you use 25V 820uF KZE to replace them? Those are 10mm wide, and the original KZG were 8mm wide?

No, don't use KSC. Yes, you must replace TMV. Most likely your shop is selling you counterfeit capacitors. There is a gentleman here from Czechoslovakia who sells capacitors, if shipping from the US is too expensive, you might want to get in touch with him.

My Asus P5LD2 is getting the black screen of death after the logo screen. I check/replaced the ram, graphics card, the hard drive, loaded a previously saved image of the os. I even did fixboot. Nothing. I tried installing new OS window xp gets stuck, windows 7 and ubuntu do not even start.
I finally took a look at the capacitors. Many of them are bulging around the CPU. Some have brownish fluid. I was able to find replacements for all except the ones labeled TMV.

Which capacitor did you use to replace the 4v 680uf tmv?

The TMVs are Ultra Low-ESR 8x9~mm. You can use polymer caps of equal spec. Please note that the replacement caps must not be too tall, or else you will not be able to install the heatsink.

Here is a link to an adequate replacement part:

Which replacements did you use for the other caps?
