Mine Optiplex 5040 has no image anymore. Fans go on as soon the power is plugged in. White powerled. After forcing it off, it sometimes comes back on automatic somehow.
Everything disconnected, cmos reset, other ram... no go. Without ram it does beep an error code.
Is it possible that this means the bios is bad?
How can I be sure the bios is bad?
I tried the first upload in this this thread (outimage) in the hexcode I found DELL CBX3, that seems to be referring to Optiplex 9010.
In my bios dump I made I can find Optiplex 5040. Not sure this is the right file then. I did try it, no I have powerled blinking code: 2xorange+6xwhite, here I see it says bad cpu! I have a steady powerled with the original bios, so...? cpu is core i5 6500.
Anyway I attach the dump I made from my original Optiplex 5040 mainboard; not sure if it is OK, because board is not booting, only fans, 3,3v 5v 1v
I had another attempt with the second bin file here v1.8.1, and after some writing tries the bios was OK an brought the PC back to life!
It was in diagnostic mode which I need to exit with Alt-F, then I also need to add the service tag. After then al went good.
Now installed W10Pro but It has no key!
There is no licence sticker on the chassis, only the Pro Windows logo with purple color, so I think the key got lost in the bios fix somehow?
How can I fix that?
Thanks to Peste for uploaden that bin file.
How can you get the bios in that Diagnostic mode?

Try this bios, it has your DMI info merged into it,the win key is included
Yes that worked, many thanks!!!
So what does DMI stand for? Does it contain more than just the winkey?
Same question. And how to find DMI on bios bin file ?
