    edenpure USA 1000 infrared quartz heater

    Hey Everyone, not sure where to post this question but here it goes.

    I received a edenpure USA 1000 infrared quartz heater from my mother in law on the terms that "If I can fix it I can keep it." I took it apart and instantly went to the heating elements.. all 3 were bad, 2 of which were broken (glass tube). I ordered 3 new elements, installed them and the system ran like a champ for the past month. That is until this morning.

    Here are the new symptoms...

    I powered it on the normal LED's illuminate and the fan kicked on as it normally does after 15 seconds or so. The heating elements never heat up. I tore open the case, and ohmed out the elements. All 3 are within the 25-26 ohm range. So they all seem to be fine.

    I tested the wires to the elements, all of them passed the continuity test.

    I then unplugged the element wires from the control board. I measured 22 VAC on both of the jacks that the element wires plug into. (two of the three elements are wired in parallel).

    Long story short, it seems like there is an issue with the control board. Does anyone know of a way to hard reset the controller, or do I have to buy a new board to install??

    Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

    If a bunch of elements were busted then a lot of kung-fu happening.
    I would check any safety switches - usually there is a tip-over switch and a thermal fuse (if fan fails). The "TL" wires might go there, ohm them out.
    The BTA25 triac might have given up, but they usually fail shorted.

    Remember this thing is AC line powered, so be careful there's a shock hazard.

      Check that BTA25 triac.

      Were the new heating elements as powerful as the old ones or more powerful? If more powerful, this could have burned the triac.

      ** EDIT **
      redwire beat me to it

        Thanks for the replies, I will check out the triac tonight. I ordered the parts direct from edenpure, they were identical as the 3 kung-fued elements that I already replaced

          I just tested the Triac. I read 2.4M ohms across A1 and A2. When I shorted the Gate to A2 I read 65 ohms. COrrect me if I am wrotng, but that test should prove proper functionality of the Triac?

          I also had continuity from the TL to the LTL jacks. I measured 0.2Ohms on those jacks.... That seems to be the heat sensor... should the resistance be so low?

            I've never had luck testing triacs with an ohmeter. If yours latched on when tying the gate to to (+) then it seems to be working. Careful reinstalling, if it has an insulating washer.
            I think TL goes to a temperature/safety switch, so 0.2 ohms is expected. I don't know where the temperature sensor (thermostat) is, if the MCU is doing it.

            What does the middle two blk wire connector go to? How does the capacitor look.

            Any chance the heater elements (white pair/black pair) are series connected for low heat, if this thing has hi/lo.

            I would turn it on; with one multimeter lead to ground and with the other lead, trace through the circuit. Line (BLK) should be 120VAC, then TL's, then triac out, then heater leads. So at least you can isolate if it's a problem on the high-current side, or the controller side.

              This is an old thread but I can add some info and will post a pic of the back of the PCB.

              USA1000 model

              Line goes through the Triac and then through LTL to the normally closed thermal switch back to the board through TL to the heating element connectors H1 and H2.

              Neutral goes straight to NF, NH1 and NH2.

              No components on back side of PCB.

              C1 = .047mF

              D1 = ON Semi Z2W
              D2 = 4007

              Q1 = BTA25-6CWG
              Q2 = K1N X9
              Q3 = ON Semi RSN103MN

              RV1 = CKE 1502
              U1 = PIC 16F616

                There is no fuse of any kind.

                Fan is switched by Q3. uC pin 6 through R8 (621) to top pin of Q3 Line in on bottom pin of Q3 out to fan terminal F from heat sink tab(same as middle pin).

                R1,2,3,22 C1,2, RY1, D1, 2 are the low voltage power supply. 120V AC to low voltage zener regulated DC for uController and front panel circuit board.

                Pictures of both boards front and back and basic wiring diagram from inside of case.

                  All three heaters are connected in parallel, so good question about the Wattage of the replacement heater.
                  BTW, you should also check and test those three Vdrops resistors and solder joints which are used to drop the AC line to run the low Voltage DC supply.
