    Macbook pro 14'' A2442

    Hello guys,

I have an A2442 (820-02098) logic board with no visible liquid damage that had both CD3217B12 and ELC180 chips blown. After removing them, there were no shorts on the board but I still wasn't getting 20V in, so I suppose all the CD3217 are necessary to negociate 20V. As far as I can tell, the NAND chips are not shorted (I measured all the caps around them and didn't find a short), so I think that just replacing both chips should be enough to bring it back to life. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare board, but I can find CD3217 chips taken from A2442 boards on Aliexpress that should work, but couldn't find the ELC180 chips for that board. Would any ELC180 chip taken from a different model work on the A2442?

Can you please explain what the ELC180 chip is, because searching the schematic of this board yields no results at all. Thanks

Another repeated engineering failure from Apple on what are very expensive laptops. Just like long screw damage on the iPhones.

This is just built in obsolescence at it's finest. What a nightmare with the CD3217's!

Amazing video! Learned a great deal. Lemon design...again to use these underrated components for the power delivery support in the BOM.

Thanks, so the one that blows up NANDS on 2018 and later intel machines 😀. Shame Apple shame.

Yet they use a vastly better regulator for the two left hand USBC ports, but use TPS62180 on the right port because it's cheaper

where to get trusted CD3217. Problem with A2337 Macbook Air
                by Adogabriel100
Hey! As the title says. i don't know if this is the right place to ask but i need to get trusted USB C Controllers (CD3217-CD3215) For macs and dont know where to get them. i dont know if you guys know where is a good place to get it.

The thing is that i have a Macbook air A2337 M1 and i dont have a donnor board to get the CD3217. So i try the CD3217 from a A2141 Board and at first, whitout his eprom it does not convert 5v to 20v. then i put the original CD3217 eprom from the A2141 and then the macbook A2337 conver the 5v to 20v but still not turning on. i guess that the CD3217 is...

MacBook A2442 not powering on – suspecting CD3217, but replacement didn’t help
                by TechSplendid
                Hi All,

I'm working on a MacBook Pro A2442 (14", 2021) that's not powering on. On two out of three USB-C ports, I get 5V and the current briefly ramps up to around 0.210A before dropping to 0.036A. On the third port (JF600), I only get 0.0045A and it stays there.

Initially, I suspected a faulty CD3217 on that port, especially since I noticed signs of previous liquid damage near the JF600 USB connector. I replaced the CD3217 with an UF400 (from an A2442 donor board from the same location). According to the supplier, this should be a compatible version, but the behavior...

Best place to source RAM chips? 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB
                by ugamazing
I'm looking to upgrade several 8GB 820-00850 boards to 16GB or 32GB for personal use. I am curious what the best practice and process is for sourcing new replacement chips, and what vendor(s) you guys prefer? Another question is, how do I find compatible chips and their corresponding part/model numbers? For example, in the 820-00850 schematic, the DDR chip U2600 model listed (EDFB232A1MA) corresponds to 1x32GB chip. Of course, I would need 4x8GB chips to replace the 4x2GB chips currently on the board. How do I find compatible 8GB chips? Is it as simple as searching "BGA178 8GB 2133"...

Macbook Pro A2442 820-02098 No image but has backlight
                by Constantinos
                Hi all
I have a Macbook Pro A2442 with the 820-02098 from a friend which has no picture on the display, however, the backlight works.
He was streaming a football match on a questionable site, then the site crashed, and the problem emerged.
Initially, he sent it to apple, who quoted him £1323.95 to replace the display, lid angle sensor and top case.
Obviously, he decided against this and gave it to me so that I could have a crack at it.
From initial diagnostics, I connected to an external monitor, I first tried with a HP 22W monitor, and I booted into the boot menu...

MacBook A2442 exclamation mark after oxydation
                by Enzo150i
                Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro A2442 with board 820-02098-A very highly oxydated (water) by an accident.
The customer just need to recover the data (no backups, heh), so we cleaned fully to make it power on.
Fortunately the Mac is still alive but it shows an exclamation mark in a circle (!) (Apple T2 fw issue?) with the text "support.apple.com/mac/restore" and doesn't go further.

We tried to interface with another Mac, but can't get in DFU. Very likely the keyboard is gone too because the water, so we're planning to buy a cheap compatible one just to....
