    HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D Blank Screen - motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901

Subject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.

Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.

Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager by print screen+mspaint and also got some error log files by pnputil all blindly (I will post them here). In device manager there is no line about the dedicated GPU AMD HD7850M, six device drivers showing couldn't be installed. My dedicated GPU is a PCIe device but “PCI Simple Communications Controller not installed” cannot detect the GPU. There is no other GPU in this motherboard to test more. One more trouble, after each booting file corruption happening in the boot drive SSD. Needed to repair the SSD in another computer and move it back again.

I replaced a new bios with the same .bin data. (I tested with old bios again, no change in the result). I took the motherboard to a professional they replaced HM76 chipset chip, AMD HD7850M GPU chip and 4 Graphic Ram chips with the brand new one. Also they transferred few other components from my first old motherboard which I can point out which ones are they.

Still no graphics output. Only difference motherboard heat increased and this time heat coming from every part.

I have no battery, I am using the power adapter only.

I measured the voltages on the pads of the motherboard:

Back side: all the pads show 19.3V (PAD# 6210,6753,6310,6600,6601,6700,6015,6110 which all voltages matching with schematics.)

    Front side (component side): PAD#:
    6121…3.35V
    6135…3.34V
    6100…3.37V
    6150…5.10V
    6970…1.84V
    6200…1.52V
    6201…1.52V
    6220…1.52V
    2013…5.09V
    6940…1.06V
    6950…0.96V
    6510…5.10V
    All these look like in normal range but;

PAD6300 and PAD6301 show 1.06V (must be in the 1.5V range?)

PAD 6750 and PAD6751 show 0.90V (I couldn't find how much V is the normal?)

What to check more, what to diagnose,
(I don't have an IR camera for heat detect)

    Thank you.

Additional information about the blank screen issue.
The HP power adapter smart pin voltage is 18.5V when not connected. When connected, it measures 1.08V regardless of power on or off.

Another info about the blank screen issue.

Something is wrong in USB section. check the ports for damage. measure resistance to GND on D+ and D- on usb

Hi mcplslg123, thank you for the answer. Total 4 usb 3.0 in this laptop. None of them has physical damage in their pins. (Display ports and hdmi port don't have any damage either.) 2 usb in the at right side mounted on the motherboard. D+ and D- in both shows 146 kOhms to the ground. 2 usb are on the extra board which is connected to MB by cable. One shows 157 kOhms to the ground by the pins D+ D-. The last one shows 2 MOhms in each. All of the usb ports can read without problem. I have a flash disk with led light, for bios update. All of them are working.

Going by the report in post#3,usb lines has issue. however, the measurement at post#5 are perfect and doesnt indicate a defect.
Try disconnecting the webcam(as it uses usb lines)+ the usb sub board. Does it makes any difference?

Now I am using minimum possible parts. The motherboard alone without the usb & audio output board, no ssd, no wifi board, no internal screen, no backup battery, nothing on it, but only the cooling fans, the power button, one ram and the power supply connected and also an external hdmi screen. It must display at least few words after the bios boot. In this motherboard just after the AMD HD7850M GPU chip is replaced with a new one I am detecting with my fingers a heat more than normal in the power chips area located in the down part of the both sides. Pls. See attached photos. I couldn't find the boardview details with voltages in the Badcaps for this motherboard (Inventec Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02) but I have the schematics.

The marked area is supposed to be warm only when vcore circuit is working as this is low voltage but high current rail-so will generate heat.

The long black plastic isolation tape under this area is no longer flat as in the photo, it is now swollen with many bubbles, there is definitely too much heat than before. Many components on the board are not numbered it is very difficult to locate them in the schematics. I couldn't find the boardview file (cad) for this motherboard in the internet. If anyone can help me out on where I can find this, I'd be very appreciated.

May be ISL 95836 HRTZ is the suspect IC. Some pins are short circuited. I will order one. In the datasheet it is written "ISL95836 provides a complete solution for microprocessor and graphic processor core power supply. It provides two Voltage Regulators (VRs) with three integrated gate drivers."

You can replace the ISLXXX Ic for your own satisafaction but i'm almost sure it wont solve the problem.

When measuring the detail voltages on the motherboard with ram, cpu and power button mounted only, little later the fans slowed down, the DJ-jack light was on unusually long, then there is no power at all and there is no DC-jack light either. It seems that in this new issue now there is a short circuit on the motherboard. 19.5V drops to 0.5V when plugged in. Same result with another power adapter. Now this is a new situation to solve before the blank screen issue. Why this happened? Any idea what to follow first?

There was a short circuit in a mosfet in the hot area, I replaced it, I also replaced the ISL 95836 IC. Power came back but still the blank screen continues.
