    Pavilion DV7 2173cl CPU upgrade ? Worth it ?

    Hello,

I have A HP Pavilion DV7 2173cl [ https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...f5de3c12ba.pdf ] and I would like to upgrade the CPU, but I have never done that on a laptop and I'm afraid to spend the time and money on a new CPU for nothing ...

    Here are some info :

    Motherboard : daut3dmb8d0 rev d
    Current CPU : Intel Core2 Duo P7350 [ http://ark.intel.com/products/36750/...z-1066-MHz-FSB ]
    Bios : 25l1605dm2i

My goal is to upgrade it to the fastest CPU possible without getting into some problems like overheating and stuff ...

I have found this article on the forum [ https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=40802 ] and the person has the same motherboard and Bios as I do, but not the same laptop, does it help ? Also what is the goal to flash the Bios as he asked, he didn't ask anything to do, just to flash it. Did he simply ask for the latest official Bios or a custom one that unlock functionalities blocked by the manufacturer ? I don't really get it.

The CPUs I would like to upgrade it to are (fastest to slowest (?]) :

    - Intel Core2 Extreme QX9300 (Is this one even compatible ?) [ http://ark.intel.com/products/36727/...z-1066-MHz-FSB ]

    - Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9100 [ http://ark.intel.com/products/37033/...z-1066-MHz-FSB ]

    - Intel Core2 Extreme Processor X9100 [ http://ark.intel.com/products/35431/...z-1066-MHz-FSB ]

What are your advices ? Is it even worth the upgrade or should I simply buy a newer (even used) laptop ?
I would also like to upgrade the memory from 4GB to 8GB, but the memory sticks I have found that are compatible with this laptop are super expensive so is this again worth the upgrade ?

Thank you all for your kind help

    up

One more info : I am mostly working on video editing, exports and photo editing on this laptop, that's why I have selected CPUs with high core number

      not worth upgrading

you must see what chipset you have, the what cpu supports, get cpu, put it in and hope that bios had uCode for it or it will not work

you cant be sure until you put cpu in, and even if it works risk overheating problems since better cpu heats much even if datasheet says thay dont
      Im Back... sort of...

Hi, thank you Donald ! I will do as you suggested and not upgrade the CPU.
What about the ram ? The only one I have found was more then 200 euros for only 8GB, is this worth it on a computer that old ?

i saw similar upgrade on an acer 5920g, but to make cpu q9xx compatible if i remember right u have to make a connection on cpu pins on socket. plus that cpu heat much more and are not cheap to find. ill suggest u to get a second hand notebook that is much more cheaper, designed to work with that newest cpu and comsume less.

The second comment lead me to this advice ..Since u are working in video editing and graphics , and eventually rendering and similar stuff , i don't think upgrading a CPU (I'm not saying you can upgrade in any ways , laptops are very limited in such direction ) , will give you the needed power , and you'll end disappointed . What you need is a stronger Graphic card , Nvidia is the best , and , in hp DV7 , you cannot upgrade the Graphics cards (whether it is Nvidia or not ) ..

So , if you're encountering lot of lagging and long time rendering , i suggest for a newer Laptop , and try to be sure it is equipped with an Nvidia .

I have newer computers but I have this one laying around and it was heating too much and pretty slow even with a ssd. So I opened it up to clean it and change the thermal paste. I wanted to change the CPU for awhile but never had the courage to do it by my self.
I'll keep this laptop this way if it's not worth it.
              Thank you all.
