do not touch the ec.
first boot press f10 apply factory defaults and restart, 2nd boot reset security settings to defaults and exit.
use BCU. you can permanently disable Absolute lock in BCU.

I am having trouble soldering the chip back, it either gets blown off-position a bit by my hot air gun or it seems to not be completely level once the solder sets.

Any tips? possibly a drip of glue to keep it in place?

I think I made things worse. Now the only light that is (always) on is fn and the power button doesn't do anything. Guess I'll unsolder and re-verify the chip still is okay.
