Ok.The serial number in the bios doesn`t always match with the one on the case, and another reason for asking is that some of our members can post an asus service bios based on the serial number.
If the bios posted by gayyum doesn`t work post a picture of the green or white barcode sticker on the motherboard,if there is one.

                Hi guys,

Please help me fix my keyboard backlight on my Asus UX370UAR, I have upgraded my motherboard from I7 7th to I7 8th gen and everything works great but I lost my KB backlight.

Can someone please share a 6MB bios image created with Afuwin?

I have found a guide on Asus Rog forums about a fix using a 6MB image created with Afuwin where you check only these boxes: Do Not Check ROM ID and Non Critical Block 2. Then click on "Flash".

Or if you guys have any other advice please share. So far I have tried BT.exe and BT2.exe but I am getting errors: No support EXTF function and return code 255..

I would be most grateful for any help. Thank you in advance!

post merged..next time look for a thread with the name and model, motherboard model of the laptop, and post there, if you can't find it, then make a new thread..

                  Hello,
Apologies for late reply, had a very busy week at work.. Please find below all the requested info:
So it is an Asus Zenbook flip UX370U

                  Device name: UX370UAF
                  Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99 GHz
Installed ram: 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
                  Device ID: B449982B-C7E4-41E6-9BBD-62D9A74541AD
                  Product ID: 00325-96163-10365-AAOEM

The new motherboard was purchased on Aliexpress, it is labelled "Akemy", the serial number on the board itself is painted over and not visible. The board is rev 2.0

                  Info from BIOS:
                  Bios vendor : American Megatrends
                  Version: 313
                  VBIOS Version: 1051.I021UX370UAR.002
                  EC Version: FOKL2706.00B
                  Serial Number: N/A

In CPU Z the board comes up as: UX370UAR, bios version is listed as: UX370UAR.313

There is a lot of discussion about this on the internet, it is a common fault with Asus laptops. I have tried reverting BIOS to older version, no difference.

During POST the keyboard used to briefly flash with the old board, since I have changed the board there is no KB flash at the POST. If I press Fn+F3 or Fn+F4 to decrease or increase illumination of the KB there is no on screen prompt in windows and no illumination of the KB. All the other Fn keys are giving me the prompt (for example if I decrease or increase screen brightness, the prompt comes up which shows me the level of brightness of the screen).

This must be a BIOS issue, I have checked the KB connector on the motherboard 10 times and I think that if this would not be correctly connected I would have no KB backlight BUT I would get the prompt in windows when I press Fn+F3 or Fn+F4.

I have attached my bios .rom created with Universal Bios Backup Toolkit v 2.0
The 6MB .rgn file was created using Afuwin.

Please guys I will be most grateful for any help, it is super annoying not to have the KB backlight working.

If you need any more info please let me know.

And please bear with me, I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to BIOS, it is a very steep learning curve and I am doing my best to understand this.

                  Thank you in advance!

                        Hi SMDFlea,

thank you for coming back to me on this. I tried your bios region, but afuwin gives me error: 7 - Error: BIOS checksum error.

                        I was following this guide:
"So if you do not see the KB lights turn on during POST, and you have checked all flex cable connections several times over from the notebook disassembly/reassembly since programming, then it means that there was possible data corruption in the Non Critical Block 2 of the BIOS image; resetting NVRAM does not fix the issue unfortunately. In order for the KB lights to work again at this point if nothing else has, you need to have at least made a backup 6MB BIOS image when the KB lights did work. If you didn't, do not worry, just ask around the forum for someone to dump their 6MB BIOS image so you can use it to complete the steps in the guide; model of notebook does not matter here but the manufacturer does; ASUS Notebooks with keyboard backlighting only.

GUIDE on specific KB lights fix

                        Tools: AFUWIN v3.05.04

Prestep. Download and extract AFUWIN and locate a working KB light 6MB BIOS image as mentioned above.
Step 1. Run AFUWIN (AFUWINGUI) and go to "Open" and locate the working KB light 6MB BIOS image.
Step 2. On the Setup tab of AFUWIN, check only these boxes: Do Not Check ROM ID and Non Critical Block 2. Then click on "Flash".
Step 3. Once the process has completed successfully, simply close AFUWIN and restart your system.
Final. Smile at your working KB lights again!

Full post from ROG forums here:

                        https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/hardwa...ix/td-p/730379

I am at my wits end with this, everything is pointing to a corrupted BIOS. Can someone rebuild this for me please? I am willing to pay for this, I really need to get the keyboard backlight working again.

I am most grateful for any help.

Hi guys, never mind, I got it sorted!! My keyboard lights up now! If anyone needs a solution to this annoying problem just do the following: (this works on UX370UAR):

                          1. Download WBT2 (Windows BIOS Tool), unpack, for example, to C:\ https://drive.google.com/file/d/15IX...M2VVmAW6g/view
                          2. Run the command line as Administrator
                          3. Go to the C:\ directory by running the command cd C:\
                          4. Run the command wbt.exe -C CNFG /W DD 7C
                          5. Result: Block size is: 256 offset is: 221 CNFG bolck size = 0100 Write Offset DD ~ DD, Data =7C ReturnCode = 0
                          6. After rebooting the laptop, the backlight adjustment started working.

                          Thank you all for assistance.
