I replaced a keyboard for a friend's Alienware 17 R4 and now when i boot it up it's asking for a system password. I get three tries and it shuts down. Doesn't say anything about being disabled. We called dell and it's $200 for the password. I scoured the web and even tried some websites like bios-pw.org but no luck. They said to enter the HD's serial..but that didn't work. Anyhow, I saw a thread here where user evserv helped someone out of a simiilar situation. Hoping they or someone else can help me. My service tag is 4M43H2. EXPRESS SERVICE CODE: 10044274070. Thanks in advance.

Just provide the correct service tag number, I will calculate your master password.

Re: Alienware 17 R4 system password - Help!
"Explain you were not able to succeed with the methods at BIOS guides, methods, resources and tools"
Shoot, I forgot. Sorry
There wasn't anything for Alienware laptops in the password removal section and the Dell bit didn't help either, and I really can't afford the tools to desolder and dump my BIOS chip. Hopefully some day

I have the same problem. Dell generated a code that didn't work, then said there is nothing else they could do. I've tried desoldering and flashing a bios, but wouldn't boot afterwards(beyond my limits). I reflashed my backup and it works again. I wrote a password cracker in powershell, but never got a hit. Not sure what else I can do.
